Swansea Community Farm

Swansea Community Farm A mental health and wellbeing Farm, transforming lives through connection with people, animals and nature.

As the only city farm in Wales we help to reconnect people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities with their food, their environment and each other through a unique and exciting range of educational, volunteering, training and play opportunities. Our 3.5 acre fully accessible site demonstrates a range of sustainability and nature conservation management techniques as well as hosting a range of rare and rare-Welsh breed farm animals.

Make a Difference Monday:

Did you know our community is made up of people struggling with their mental health, effects of poverty, social isolation and/or disabilities? At the farm they find purpose, friendship and join a non judgmental community that has life transforming effects.

Here is a quote from a volunteer that perfectly sums up how what she found here was exactly what she needed to feel good about herself again.

We have had so much fun meeting and consulting with over 500 local children and their big people about Tyfu'n Wyllt over the last month to find out how to shape activities that improve wellbeing for under 5's in nature. We have had to use our best playwork and engagement skills to design activities to find out what people need and want more of. The Farm is the perfect community based setting for engagement and listening to community voices and we are particularly grateful to all the under 5's, their adults and partner organisations that have helped us get so many opinions on what we should do next! We are extra grateful to our amazing steering groups who have given up their time to get into the nitty gritty of project design with us. Here's a reel to show some of the action!

Here are some of our wonderful young volunteers who worked super hard to complete their Level 2 Food Hygiene course with our Café Officer.

One of them said, 'I didn't think that I was going to pass that course at all, it was so hard! I'm really happy that I did and now I've got a certificate as well.'

Dyma rai o'n gwirfoddolwyr ifanc a weithiodd yn galed iawn i gwblhau eu cwrs Hylendid Bwyd Lefel 2 gyda'n Swyddog Caffi.

Dywedodd un ohonyn nhw, 'Doeddwn i ddim yn meddwl y byddwn i'n llwyddo yn y cwrs hwnnw o gwbl, roedd mor anodd! Rydw i wir yn hapus fy mod i wedi llwyddo ac mae gen i dystysgrif nawr hefyd.'

Make a Difference Monday: It isn't just people that make a difference here at the Farm. The animals are often the reason people come here and stay here and work on transforming their lives with our support. Every now and then there is a really special animal, in this case an unassuming bronze heritage turkey called Bruce. Unfortunately, last week we lost our iconic Bruce who died of old age after over 8 Christmases with us. He was a total legend, thousands of people knew and loved him and despite his somewhat intimidating size he was always a gentleman. He will be missed!

Croeso Choir End of Term Event:
A few weeks ago our multi talented Cafe Officer Kate hosted a choir night for the Croeso Choir (a choir she also sings in- such a renaissance woman!)

As part of this Davies Singing and the Croeso Choir graced us with an evening of musical delights, singing folk to funk with beautiful, thought provoking songs.
They then joined each other in our community café to enjoy farm reared burgers and homemade treats.

If you have an event you'd like to make happen, please get in touch [email protected]

Our young people love learning and making their own food from scratch. A few weeks ago, they made spring rolls together to share with each other at lunch time.

One said, 'it's really cool making our own food that we'd usually have as a takeaway meal, I'm more confident cooking now than I was before'
