Aren´t grass seeds a nuisance this time of year 🤨
They are notorious for their easy pe*******on of the skin and the way they manage to burrow into the body.
Grass seeds are a common problem for dogs during the summer months and due to the shape of them (pointed head and arrow shaped fibres), once they are in the hair/body, it is difficult for them to become dislodged.
They can become lodged almost anywhere but more commonly get into ears, eyes, paws and work their way under the skin, We´ve seen many lodged in arm pits this year 🙄. they can enter the body and move around inside.
The seeds are sources of infection that cause inflammation and painful swelling, which then develop into an abscess which could require an operation.
Dogs may shake their head if a seed has gone down the ear or lick their paws if one is stuck in between their toes
To help prevent problems with grass seeds, check your dog over after every walk especially if you’ve passed through long grass, keep the hair in the problematic areas short.
Problematic areas;
Ears
Between toes
In their pads
Arm pits
Groin
Around the eyes
