And yes… we definitely did a little happy dance! 💃🕺🐾

As a small husband-and-wife team, every successful match means the world to us. Knowing we’ve helped a dog owner find the right support whilst also supporting one of the wonderful ethical trainers in our network is exactly why we started The Ethical Dog Trainers Network in the first place.

🐾 Does this sound familiar? 🐾

You spot another dog in the distance and your stomach drops.

You tighten your grip on the lead.

You start planning your escape route.

Because you already know what's coming next...

The barking.

The lunging.

The pulling.

The looks from other people.

The feeling that walks are becoming more stressful than enjoyable.

This is Pippa. ❤️

A rescue Jack Russell Terrier whose reactions towards other dogs had become so intense that she once pulled her owner over, causing injury. On more than one occasion, she dragged her owner towards roads as she desperately tried to get to other dogs with defensive and frustrated behaviour.

Her owner loved her dearly, but walks had become exhausting and worrying.

Watch the video and you'll see the start of Pippa's journey.

The first clips show a dog who is tense, frustrated and struggling to cope around other dogs. The stooge dogs in the video were carefully selected to help us work at Pippa's pace and build positive experiences.

As the video progresses, you'll see something remarkable.

The same dog.

The same environment.

The same presence of other dogs.

But a completely different response.

A dog who can walk calmly alongside others, who looks more relaxed, more confident and far happier in their company.

Today, Pippa and her owner can regularly be found enjoying countryside walks together. Pippa is now able to safely enjoy off-lead time and even play with dogs she meets out and about.

No magic wand.

No quick fixes.

Just kind, ethical training, patience, understanding and a training plan tailored to the individual dog.

If you're currently dreading your walks and wondering if things can ever change, Pippa's story is proof that progress is possible.

💜 The Ethical Dog Trainers Network can help connect you with experienced, ethical and accredited trainers who understand reactive dogs and are ready to support both you and your dog.

📩 Send us a message and let's help you enjoy walking your dog again.

A little feel-good story about my own pets 💞

This one feels like a really special milestone for me and my family 💛

When we brought Emmy home from the rescue back in August 2024, she was absolutely terrified of the cats… but at the same time, there was a real intensity there and a strong desire to chase.

We took things slowly. No pressure, no forcing interactions—just careful management, building positive associations, and rewarding every single moment of calm.

A few months ago, I shared an update on my training page (Four Paws Dog Training) where they were each settled at opposite ends of the sofa… which in itself felt like a huge step forward at the time.

But this night felt different.

For the past few months, they’ve been happily rubbing alongside each other… and this night, for the very first time, Emmy and Rhion chose to settle and sleep next to each other on the sofa 🐾

Not placed there. Not encouraged in that moment. Just a quiet, mutual decision.

It’s taken patience, consistency, and trust—but moments like this make it all so worthwhile.

If you’re struggling with introductions, chasing behaviour, or helping your dog feel calm around other animals, you’re not alone—and with the right, kind approach, things really can change.

Tell us where you are and what help you need. We’ll personally match you with a suitable trainer for free.

🐾 Choosing the right dog trainer matters.

At The Ethical Dog Trainers Network, we carefully review every trainer application we receive. Our aim is to help connect dog owners with trainers who are committed to ethical, welfare-led and reward-based training methods, alongside ongoing education and professional development.

We look closely at:
✔️ Professional memberships and accreditations
✔️ Continued learning and CPD
✔️ Training methods and ethics
✔️ Understanding of dog behaviour and welfare

We particularly value trainers who hold — or have previously held — recognised memberships or assessed accreditations with respected ethical organisations within the industry.

At the same time, we know every experienced trainer once started somewhere. Trainers who are genuinely committed to furthering their education and working towards accreditation are still very welcome within our growing community and future educational webinars and support.

For us, it’s about building a network centred around kindness, welfare, education and a genuine passion for helping dogs and their owners.
