Calf Pneumonia - More Than Metacam & Draxxin?!

This week we managed to escape the rain for a little while to learn about Thoracic Ultrasound Scanning (TUS)🫁.
We were kindly hosted by our wonderful vet Alex, where we found some willing (and very cute!) volunteers!🐄

What is TUS? 🩻
TUS is the use of our ultrasound scanners (normally used for pregnancy diagnosis in cattle) to assess lung health.
It can be used both to guide treatment during an outbreak of pneumonia, and as a screening tool in larger groups of calves.

Why do we use it? 🧐
Evidence shows that calves with more extensive lung damage are more likely to be culled early, and less likely to hit weight gain, fertility & milking targets.
Scanning is a fast, non-invasive way to ensure that subclinically affected calves are treated before any permanent lung damage occurs.

Who’s eligible? 🐄
Calves from 3 weeks to 3 months old are a good size for us to be able to assess the entirety of each lung on ultrasound. By routinely scanning calves in this age range, we can ensure vaccinations are scheduled appropriately and help you with your future herd planning.

🐄 Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day! 🐑🦙

Today we want to give a huge shout out to our fantastic farm team receptionists! 💚

Our receptionists are the friendly voices at the end of the phone, the people keeping on top of emails, booking visits, coordinating appointments and helping make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

But their role is so much more than that. From supporting our vets and support team, answering questions, juggling last minute changes, passing on important information and keeping everyone organised, they provide essential all round support to the whole team every single day. 📞💻📅🐄

They often work quietly behind the scenes, but their contribution is absolutely vital to keeping our farm service running efficiently and making sure our clients and patients receive the support they need.

So today, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to our brilliant reception team. Your hard work, patience, organisation, kindness and dedication never go unnoticed. ❤️

💉BLUETONGUE VACCINATION - SINGLE DOSES BEING SPLIT ON Wednesday 14th October 2026 💉

We are looking to help people with a smaller number of animals than 50 to vaccinate against the Bluetongue Virus. We are able to draw up and dispense the singular doses needed for clients to vaccinate their own animals. Single doses must be collected and administered on the day of dispensing due to the lifespan of the vaccine once doses are split.

We plan to open our next bottle on Wednesday 14th October 2026 therefore if you are a registered client and have any interest in vaccinating your animals but have been hesitant due to bottle sizes, please get in contact on 01986 801602 to request further information or request doses.

Please note, you must have been seen within the last 6 months by a veterinary surgeon for us to dispense these vaccines due to RCVS guidance, or book in to have a vet out to vaccinate your animals for you, covering the medicines check renewal at the same time.
