Grass seed season is here 😫
With the high temperatures of the last few weeks the seeds are all drying out already.
When fresh, the seed heads are soft and generally less of a concern. As they dry out in late spring and summer, they stiffen and develop sharp, barbed tips. Their arrowhead shape allows them to easily pe*****te skin, eyes, nose, or ears, and their backward-facing barbs prevent them from falling out, causing them to migrate deeper into the body.
To keep your dog safe this season:
🌱Avoid tall, dry grass whenever possible, especially during late spring and summer.
🌱Check your dog thoroughly after walks, paying close attention to between their toes (a very common spot), armpits, under the tail, ears, and around their eyes.
🌱Trim long fur around your dog's paws and ears to prevent seeds from clinging.
🌱Consider a snood to keep flappy ears protected.
🌱Look for symptoms like sudden, persistent sneezing, head-shaking, intense paw-licking, or red lumps.
