Our new 6 Week Scentwork Course starts next Sunday, 8th November, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to give your dog a new challenge.

Scentwork isn’t just about finding something hidden. It’s about developing confidence, concentration, independence and learning to work together as a team.

Over six weeks we’ll build on your dog’s natural scenting abilities, introducing different searches, environments and challenges as their skills develop.

🐾 A GOOD GUNDOG ISN’T MADE IN THE SHOOTING FIELD.

It’s made through all those little training sessions that nobody sees.

The five minutes spent working on heelwork.

The recall exercises when there are no distractions.

The stop whistle practice.

The steadiness exercises that might seem repetitive.

The time spent developing engagement and understanding.

All of these things contribute towards the dog you eventually take into the shooting field.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is people wanting to move on to more exciting exercises before their foundations are properly established.

But advanced training is only as reliable as the foundations beneath it.

At Seadogs Training, we work our own dogs as well as training clients’ dogs, so we understand just how important those foundations are when you’re out in the field.

You don’t need to train for hours every day. You need to train consistently, with purpose.

Five or ten minutes of focused training can be far more productive than a long session where everything starts to unravel.

🐾 There’s Always Something to Do Behind the Scenes at Seadogs! 🌳

A trip to the training centre this morning and, once again, we’ve got a few more unexpected jobs to add to the never-ending list!

More dead trees have come down along our access track from the neighbouring wood, bringing with them further damage to fencing. Unfortunately, this is something we’ve been dealing with for several years now, and it seems every time we get one area sorted, another job appears!

Running a dog training centre involves so much more than just training dogs. There’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to keep everything accessible, safe, maintained and ready for our clients and their dogs.

From maintaining the training grounds, managing the cover, cutting grass and repairing fencing to clearing fallen trees and dealing with whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at us next, there’s rarely a quiet moment!

Some of these challenges are ongoing, but we just keep doing what we can to make sure the centre remains somewhere we’re proud to welcome everyone.

It’s certainly not all playing with puppies and training gundogs! 😂🐾

But we wouldn’t have it any other way. Well… perhaps with a few fewer fallen trees! 🌳🙈
