⭐Commando's Flyball Team Shine at British Championships⭐

The Commandos Flyball Team from Stockton-on-Tees travelled to Statfold in August to complete in the British Flyball Association Outdoor Championships, fielding four teams 🌍

🏆Racing their hearts out across a packed weekend of competition, the Commandos put on an outstanding performance - bringing home two divisional champion titles and two divisional runner-up placings!

It was a brilliant achievement that reflects on the dedication of the handlers, dogs and supporters who give their all to the sport.

One of the Commando's team is one of our very own Lead RVN's Nikita 💚 who is as passionate about the care she gives our patients at the hospital as she is being part of this team 💚

Congratulations to the whole Commandos Flyball Family! 👏

Meet Finn 💙

Finn was recently seen by one of our Neurology Specialists Matt, after collapsing at home and becoming tetraplegic.

🩺An emergency MRI scan of the neck which revealed a C3-C4 intervertebral disc extrusion ('slipped disc') with haemorrhage, causing compression of the spinal cord.

⏰With no time to waste, Finn underwent straight in for spinal surgery, to remove the herniated disc material.

💊Following the surgery, due to the severity of the spinal cord damage caused by the slipped disc, Finn was unable to ventilate effectively, requiring mechanical ventilation under general anaesthetic for approximately 36 hours.

Once Finn was able to ventilate effectively on his own he was taken off the ventilator and moved to the ward, where he received around the clock care by our dedicated nursing team for a further 3 days before continuing his recovery at home.

We are thrilled to share that Finn has made an incredible recovery and is back to living his best life. 🐾

Today we are highlighting the power of our multidisciplinary team here at Wear Referrals 💪

Meet Roman, a brave 4 year old Rottweiler who needed round the clock care from the team for treatment of Septic Peritonitis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when bacteria enters the abdominal cavity, causing severe inflammation and infection.

💉With no time to waste, Roman underwent successful emergency exploratory surgery with our Soft Tissue Surgery team, during which a portion of his small intestine was removed.

🩺Immediately following surgery he was in critical condition and required specialist care including multi-modal analgesia, blood pressure support, gastrointestinal care and nutritional support.

🧡His care was delivered through a team effort including our Out of Hours Team, Anaesthetists and Intensive Care team.

⭐The results? Thanks to his loving family at home, whilst requiring multiple visits back to see Soft Tissue clinicians and nurses to support his ongoing recovery at home; 'Roman is doing amazingly well, and is back to his boisterous self!' 😊

🐾 Logan’s Road to Recovery ⚽

Logan was referred to us from his primary care vets as an emergency, after injuring his leg while playing with a ball.

A CT scan revealed a lateral condylar fracture, which was swiftly repaired in theatre the very same day. 💪

After a night of rest and recovery, Logan headed home with strict instructions to take it easy and rest at home.

Six weeks later, he returned for post-op X-rays—and we’re thrilled to share that he’s healed beautifully!

Now, Logan is back to doing what he loves most—running on the beach and living his best life! 🌊🐶

We’re so proud of his progress and grateful to have been part of his journey. 💙

The team's passion and expertise help ensure every cat that walks through our doors receives the gentlest, most stress-free experience possible.

👏 Huge thanks to our feline-focused champions: ✨

From low-stress handling techniques to making your cats stay at the hospital as stress free as possible, we’re making every visit better for our feline friends.

Did you hear about our roar-some effort treating poorly lion cubs? 🦁

Ben Harris, our clinical director and RCVS-recognised Specialist in Internal Medicine, was contacted by wildlife and conservation charity Howletts Wild Animal Trust about some unwell lion cubs they had rescued.

The zoo vet team were supported by Ben and fellow Wear Veterinary Specialists Megan Work (Internal Medicine) and Alessia Silvia Colverde (Neurology) to devise a treatment plan for the cubs.

We are happy to report they are now thriving and growing up at Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent. 👏

Remember Bertie 💙
The dog who suffered a skull fracture, we've had some lovely feedback from his owner about his time here and how he's getting on now.

"Bertie was injured when not in our care. We had to organise a flight home. We were unable to return for 24 hours and our first contact with Wear Referrals was by telephone. Their professionalism and care was obvious from that very first contact and continued throughout our dealings with them. We were kept informed at every stage with their proposals to help Bertie and we always felt involved in the decision making process . We felt reassured that he was in good hands and was getting the best care possible. We felt comforted by the clarity and sensitivity of their contact with us. It was obvious they cared about Bertie and ourselves at what was an extremely traumatic time. Bertie is the same fun loving dog he was before the accident and that is down to the expertise of Fabio and the team. A huge thank you again from Bertie and his family“.
