Firstly, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who shared my last post and for all the lovely comments and messages. ❤️ The amount of support this little business receives never ceases to amaze me, and it genuinely means a lot. Thank you. 🥰
In other news... apparently it's hot again! ☀️🥵 Thankfully nowhere near as brutal as a couple of weeks ago (that was just ridiculous), but it's still worth taking care of yourselves and your dogs.
I walked into the living room this afternoon to find Woody... like this. 🤦🏼♀️🤣
For anyone who doesn't own a greyhound, this is called roaching - where they roll onto their backs, legs everywhere, looking completely broken. 😂 At 12 years old Woody doesn't do it very often these days, so I had to grab a photo.
My personal theory? He was simply trying to maximise fan coverage over his man bits. 🌬️🍒🤣
The second photo is the exact moment he realised he'd been caught. The look says it all... "This isn't what it looks like." 👀😂
On a more serious note, please do continue to keep your dogs cool. We've found what works well here is keeping the curtains and windows closed during the day to keep the heat out, then opening everything up once the temperature drops in the evening to let the cooler air flow through the house. Fans have been brilliant too.
If you're using a hose to cool your dog, always let it run first to make sure the water is actually cool before spraying them.
One thing I've noticed with my own two oldies (Woody is 12 and Misty is 13, and both have recovered from spinal strokes) is that the heat definitely seems to magnify underlying neurological deficits. They become noticeably more wobbly - a bit like drunken sailors! 🤣 Heat makes it much harder for them to regulate themselves, so if your dog is older or has any neurological or other underlying health conditions, they may struggle more than a fit, healthy dog. It's something worth keeping an eye on. ❤️
