🌡️ A little insight into the joys of planning dog walks in this weather! ☀️🐾

These are two different weather apps, both showing the forecast for the same place and the same morning yet they give me very different answers!

One is predicting 19°C at 8am, while the other is predicting 14°C. By 10am, one says 24°C and the other 19°C.

That might not sound like a huge difference, but when you’re responsible for several dogs, it makes a massive difference. 19°C is safe for most of the dogs I walk especially if can get to shady areas, whereas 24°C is a temperature where I need to be much more cautious and is unsuitable for a lot of dogs.

This is why you will see walks moved, shortened, brought forward, delayed or changed at the last minute during hot weather. It isn’t me being indecisive, I’m constantly checking different forecasts and making the safest decision I can based on the actual conditions, the individual dogs and how the weather is developing.

And honestly, this is the most stressful part of the summer. I can plan the day the night before, only to wake up and find that the forecast has changed again 😫

It’s not a pity post at all - just a little insight into what goes on behind the scenes when you’re trying to keep everyone safe in the heat. But if anyone knows a weather app that is more reliable than either of these please let me know! 🐶❤️

The forecast can change. The dogs’ safety doesn’t. 🐾

I wasn’t quite sure what the temperatures were going to do today so decided to move the group walk to first thing this morning just in case. It was really cool and so lovely to let the dogs run and play without the risk of overheating 🐾

It was lovely getting out on one of the longer loops today with Archie and Bailey 🐾💙

They can’t quite make it all the way around this one within their usual hour, but after we had to cut their walk short earlier this week when we got caught in the rain and they were both shivering, it was nice to be able to make that time back up today.

And thankfully, today’s weather was much kinder to us! ☀️
