Join in with a daily schedule of hands-on activities which includes bottle-feeding the kid goats and calves, and holding fluffy chicks. As well as regular activities there are lots of friendly animals to meet including donkeys, alpacas, cute chicks, Pygmy goats, Kunekune pigs, cows and many more. Explore in and around the farmyard buildings, there’s so much to see and do. Don’t miss the brilliantly bumpy tractor and trailer ride, which is free of charge (ground conditions permitting).

OLD-SCHOOL TACTICS
The end of the school term kept us busy as various school groups had rescheduled their visits to the last few days of the term. My last few groups were older children who needed to let off some steam, and despite the very hot conditions, they really enjoyed the interactions with all the animals.

One of the schoolteachers who has been bringing visiting groups for many years reminded me of the tactics that I used to get up to in the past. These included lining up the group and encouraging the most verbal pupil to hold onto an electric fence to see how far the electric current travelled along the line, challenging the groups to stack 25kg straw bales as high as they could, and one of my favourite tasks: when we would let the pigs out into the play area and the school groups had to round them up.

Unfortunately, we are no longer permitted to operate these challenges due to the very stringent guidelines now imposed on us. Such a shame as we all enjoyed them enormously.

Despite the recent showers, the whole of Longdown Activity Farm, including the car park, remains a NO SMOKING ZONE. This is to protect our animals, staff, visitors, land, and buildings. The ground is still dry and vulnerable to fires. Thank you for your understanding.
