Meet Biscuit 🐾A brave little fighter!

Biscuit is a very special rescue puppy who’s captured everyone’s hearts at our South Ockendon practice. 💛

He was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his legs, leaving him with hind limb injuries and in need of urgent treatment and round-the-clock care. Thankfully, our lead vet and branch partner, George 🩺, stepped in to give him the best possible start and took him in for himself! He took him home and, with the help of our nursing team, hand-reared him back to health.

Biscuit is now doing brilliantly, growing stronger every day, and is a much-loved member of the South Ockendon team. 🐶✨

This Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re reminded that the unconditional love of pets can play a big part in supporting our wellbeing. Whether it’s a wagging tail after a long day, a purr that brings comfort, or simply getting out for a walk together, our companions remind us to slow down and take care of ourselves.

At Medivet, we’re proud to care not just for pets, but also for the people who love them. Supporting each other; colleagues, clients and communities is at the heart of what we do.

Let’s celebrate the bond between people and pets, and the role it plays in better mental health.

Say hi to this prickly little guy! This brave little hedgehog was brought into our Medivet Beeston practice after being injured by a strimmer and needed an amputation.

Garden wildlife often need a helping hand and small changes, like checking long grass before strimming, can make a huge difference. 🌱✨

They won’t show it, but it doesn’t mean they’re not hurting.

Pets instinctively hide pain - especially in their joints. We’re here to help you spot the signs they can’t speak about, with a FREE Mobility Pain Check.

We would like to introduce this very brave boy, Arthur. 🐈

Arthur came into out South Ockendon practice recently for a tail amputation. There are many reasons a cat may need an amputation and in this case it was because Arthur was found as a stray and had a severe infection in his tale. The team made the decision to amputate so Arthur could live a happy and healthy life.

Arthur’s Big Day 🐱

Arthur, who belongs to one of out vet nurses, came to us for a tail amputation last week.

✨ Step by step, Arthur’s journey ✨
- Examination, pain relief, and X-rays to check the damage
- Intubation
- Anaesthesia and sterile prep
- Surgery to remove the damaged section and close the wound neatly

Griff came to see us today after managing to snack on a baby wipe and a grape 🍇.

Grapes and raisins are highly toxic to dogs and can cause serious kidney damage, which can be fatal. Non-food items such as baby wipes can also cause dangerous intestinal blockages, so prompt intervention is essential.

Fortunately, Griff’s owners brought him straight to us, and we were able to induce vomiting right away.

If your pet eats something they shouldn’t, don’t wait—call us immediately. Fast action can make all the difference!

🐾 Meet Riccardo 🐾

Riccardo recently came to us after his owner noticed he was in a lot of discomfort with his ear. Closer examination revealed a large grass seed had become lodged in the ear and sedation was required to remove it.

Grass seeds are a summer hazard that can cause discomfort, infection and even pose risk of internal damage if they migrate around the body. 🌾

Here’s some symptoms to look out for:
- Limping or lameness
- Head shaking or ear irritation
- Red, swollen areas or punctures
- Persistent licking or nibbling at a particular area

If you think your pet may have a grass seed, please call us on 01708 670200 to book an appointment.

We had a large male, entire (not neutered) black and white domestic short hair cat brought into the practice in a critical state on Friday morning. He was found by a member of the public after having been involved in an RTA. Unfortunately, he had no microchip or collar. Due to his rapid deterioration after attempts to provide pain relief and stabilisation, we had to make the hard decision to euthanise on welfare grounds. If you believe this is your cat, please can we kindly ask you contact us on 01708 670200 😔💛

Please contact us on 01708 670200 if you think this may be your cat 😔💛
