πΎ β€οΈβπ©Ή πΎ Look at this little beauty, this is Penny. At just 15 weeks old, Penny was facing issues with her hind limbs when walking and running. Pennyβs owner booked a consultation with our vet Kishor who assessed Penny.
It was discovered that Penny had an issue with her knees. These issues were discussed with Pennyβs owner and it was decided that the best course of action was surgical corrections.
A patella luxation surgery was performed.
In dogs, the patella, or kneecap, is a small bone embedded in a tendon that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). It normally sits within a groove at the end of the femur, and acts as a pulley to help the quadriceps muscles extend the knee. Patellar luxation occurs when the kneecap dislocates from this groove, either medially (inward) or laterally (outward).
Penny spent the day with us and has been back for her post op check with us. Her wound is healing well and we will see Penny back here for her stitches to be removed at a later date.
