Has this ever happend to you?

Im in the kitchen with one of my dogs, Loki and I heard a dog whine. It sounded so much like zeus - who is sadly no longer with us. But Loki also looked too around too at the same time - his ears pricked up and stareing directly in the same diresction i heard it from - so i know im know hearing things.

Could it be him? 🤷

Owners get paranoid when they tell trainers their dogs go on their beds and fear we are going to tell them off.

Pointers = Bird dogs.

They love to hunt, point, flush and retrieve game.

If a dog is gentically bred for something ie: hunting game, then walking past these and not wanting to chase them is super hard for them.

Some dogs have a higher prey drive than others. But believe me, Thor has a high prey drive, for Birds in particular.

I have no doubt in my mind - if he was off a lead he would not have chased them. Yes he stopped and looked at them, but he had great control, was still engaged with me and didnt pull towards them.

Theres a huge difference between looking and being alert to looking at something and wanting to run off and chase.

If your dog is pulling to get to them on a lead, then they should not be off a lead as its pretty guaranteed they will chase if they are off a lead.

If your dog is pulling to get to something whilst on a lead they arent ready to be off a lead as chances are they arent going to listen to you and will instantly go in to chase mode when they see something of interest.

Ps. Thor had to be on a lead as we were on the golf course and its their rule for dogs to be on a lead.

Theres just something about horses that i find so peaceful 🥰. Beautiful gentle soles.

The shear power they have, they could kill you instantly. But yet they are one of the most softest animals, who likes cuddles just as much as our doggies 🥰

Window barking isn’t just about the window.

It’s about a dog that:
❌ Can’t switch off
❌ Is always “on edge”
❌ Is looking for something to do

This is why we teach settle.

Teaching your dog how to lie down, relax, and do nothing is a skill — not something they just “learn with age.”

A dog that can settle = a dog that doesn’t feel the need to react to everything.

There is plenty of other training we can do to help teaching them to remain calm, but 'Settle' is a good start.
