Today we said goodbye to rMWD ‘Angry’ Sam,

Most of you knew him as the little ginger helper/Scentwork whirlwind, that used to pop out to help or trial then disappear again, but he was a truly special little dog.

Sam was a distinguished and award winning military working dog, recovering from serious injury in Afghanistan to return to full work and serve until retirement at 8 years old. From that point he was rehomed to his former handler, Scott (Jazz’s husband) and lived out his retirement turning his paw to everything from disk to Scentwork.

At the ripe old age of 16, he passed away today peacefully at home with his favourite humans around him.

He will always be remembered as the crazy little screaming spaniel who lit up our days and he’s truly missed by the whole team.

We appreciate your patience over the next few days while we take a little time to adjust and remember Sam.

Not sure if you’ve all noticed yet… but it’s HOT this week!! ☀️☀️

Your dogs welfare is our main priority, but we also understand that some dogs deal with the heat better than others, so even if it’s cooled slightly, if you have face to face sessions booked and you think it’ll be too warm, please contact us and rearrange!

Jazz will be extending sessions to early mornings and evenings (yes, we’re getting her out of bed early!) so we are able to offer same day but adjusted time (where availability allows)!

In the mean time, keep those doggy brains busy, be sensible in the heat and keep in touch with your coach for ideas of productive things to do in the warmer weather and most importantly, stay safe and enjoy ☺️

💤 And honestly… sometimes the best thing you can do is absolutely nothing.

Remember heatstroke can happen faster than most people realise, especially in driven, high-energy dogs that won’t naturally switch off.

Training social media often shows the highlight reel.

The perfect heelwork.
The calm dog.

What you don’t see is the repetition, mistakes, frustration, resets, and hundreds of small sessions that created it.

Real dog training is less about perfection and more about consistency.

Your dog doesn’t need you to be perfect.
They need clarity, fairness, and repetition.

Training is not linear.

One day your dog nails it…
The next? They bark at you instead of lying down 😂

And honestly?
That’s normal.

Progress in dog training isn’t a straight line.
Dogs get excited, frustrated, distracted, overconfident, tired…

Mistakes are part of learning — not proof your training is failing.

This clip is a perfect example:
Asked for a “down”…
Got a “bark and hold” instead 😅

The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is understanding, communication, and consistency.

If your dog struggles sometimes…
You’re not going backwards.
You’re training a real dog in the real world.

This Cockapoo used to explode in the crate. Barking, pacing, unable to switch off.

Most “disobedience” isn’t disobedience at all - it’s lack of clarity.

Your dog isn’t trying to get it wrong.
They’re trying to make sense of inconsistent information.

If your cues change, your timing is off, or your movement is chaotic…
you don’t get reliability, you get hesitation.

Clear dogs are confident dogs.
Confident dogs perform.

Strip things back.
Say less.
Move with intent.
Be consistent enough that your dog can’t get it wrong.

That’s where real training starts.
