Just a reminder with the rising temperatures over the coming days;

💧 Always provide fresh water - maybe an extra bowl than normal
🌳 Make sure pets have access to shade and cool areas
🚶 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day – early morning or evening
🚗 Never leave pets in cars, even for a few minutes
❄️ Cooling mats, damp towels and frozen treats can help keep them comfortable (but not ice cubes, this can cause there stomach to go into shock)

Watch out for signs of overheating including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting or collapse.

If you’re worried your pet may be overheating, contact your vet as soon as possible!!

Julianna has a special interest in skin, ear and allergy conditions and offers dedicated dermatology consultations for pets suffering with these issues.

She will thoroughly assess your pet, discuss any appropriate testing, and work with you to create a tailored treatment plan to help keep them happy and comfortable.

Our practice also has an in-house laboratory, allowing us to perform cytology testing on skin and ear samples quickly, helping us reach a diagnosis and start treatment sooner.

🌾🌱Grass Seed Season is Here! 🌱🌾

Grass seeds may look harmless, but they can cause painful problems for dogs by becoming lodged in paws, ears, eyes, noses, and even under the skin.

Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Excessive paw licking or limping
🐾 Head shaking or ear scratching
🐾 Sudden sneezing or nosebleeds
🐾 Red, sore, or watery eyes

Check your pet thoroughly after walks/being out, especially if they’ve been running through long grass.

If you notice any of these signs, please contact us as soon as possible. Early treatment can prevent more serious complications 🐾🦮🐈 🐾

Meet Gemma! 🐾
Gemma is one of our experienced Veterinary Nurses here at Skelmersdale Vets.
Having worked in veterinary nursing throughout her career, Gemma brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, with a particular interest in wildlife and exotic patients.

We all often jump to Gemma for advice for the more exotic species including hedgehogs 🦔

When she's not caring for our patients, Gemma enjoys spending time in her garden and with her much-loved pets. Her passion for animals extends beyond the practice, and she has even given a home to Frenchie Herbie and a rescue cat Wob that first came through our doors as a stray.

You'll find Gemma involved in all aspects of nursing, from inpatient care and theatre work to nurse consultations, always ensuring our patients receive the very best care.
