We had this little hoglet brought into us yesterday, he looks to have lost his mum.
He was weak and cold but with the care of a member of the public and an overnight stay with us, he is on the mend and looking much happier.

πŸ¦” Hedgehog spotted in the daytime?

Not all daytime sightings are an emergency, but if a hedgehog looks weak, injured, wobbly or is sitting out in the open, it may need help.

πŸ“¦ Gently place it in a high-sided box with:
* A towel or fleece
* Warm (not hot) covered heat source if weak/cold (wrapped hot water bottle or warm sock with rice)
πŸ’§ Offer shallow water
🐾 You can offer meaty dog or cat food (wet or dry soaked slightly)
* Avoid milk (causes diarrhoea)
* Avoid bread

And contact a wildlife rescue or vets for advice 🐾

🐾 🌟 🩺. πŸ’‰ 🌟 VETERINARY NURSE AWARENESS MONTH 🌟 πŸ’‰ 🩺 🌟 🐾

May is national veterinary nurse awareness month, so we are going to celebrate our team of fantastic nurses πŸ’•

With over 60 years experience between our nursing team, it’s safe to say your pets are in the best hands with lots of experience between them.

Chris, pictured here with Buttons, the 9 week old Ragdoll kitten, has been nursing all her life. 🐾

You will often find Chris in our prep area or theatre, preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anaesthetics, giving medication to in patients, providing cuddles after surgery and most of all keeping the team moral up with her funny, bubbly personality.

Chris has a Springer Spaniel called Wilson.
She enjoys long walks and holidays with her family and definitely carries the best pair of dancing shoes, she is always first on the dance floor πŸŽ‰

Between the team, they all have their specialty area which is why they all work together so well πŸ’“

*We know it’s now June but we’ve been soo busy we’ve not had chance to jump onto Facebook - for anyone concerned πŸ€£πŸ™ˆ*

Just to help with the confusion over why we request to see your pet for flea and worm treatment;

Under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) regulations, most flea, tick, and worming treatments are classified as Prescription-Only Medicines (POM-V).
To legally prescribe and dispense these anti parasitic, the following rules apply:

🐾 Annual Physical Exam: Your pet must be physically examined and clinically assessed by a veterinary surgeon at least once every 12 months.
🐾 Dosage & Weight Changes: If your pet is changing to a different product or their weight changes significantly, a re-examination is usually required to ensure they receive the correct dosage.
🐾 Dispensing over 12 Months: While a vet can prescribe up to a year's worth of parasite treatment following the exam, they do not have to dispense all of it at once. It can be portioned out over the year (e.g., quarterly or monthly) and you can collect as and when required.

πŸ“± Please call and order these ahead of coming in to collect

✏️ We do ask for 24 hours notice to get these products ready

If you have any queries or concerns regarding this or if you want to check if your pet is up to date, please give us a call and the team will be happy advise

Just a little update from Aughton Meadows 🀍

We are open as usual today, however we kindly ask you to bear with us over the next couple of days, as our stable roof repairs have taken slightly longer than expected due to the hot weather.

This will not affect any appointments, and any noise will be kept to an absolute minimum. We are very fortunate to have a lovely team of work men who are incredibly respectful and considerate of the sensitive nature of our business.

Thank you so much for your kindness, patience, and understanding.

Let’s all try and keep as cool as Vinnie, he came for his 2nd vaccination yesterday and slept through the whole consultation 🀣 🩡

As temperatures rise, our furry friends can struggle to keep cool and are at risk of heatstroke – which can become life-threatening very quickly.

πŸ’§ Always provide fresh water
🌳 Make sure pets have access to shade and cool areas
🚢 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day – early morning or evening
πŸš— Never leave pets in cars, even for a few minutes
❄️ Cooling mats, damp towels and frozen treats can help keep them comfortable (but not ice cubes, this can cause there stomach to go into shock)

Watch out for signs of overheating including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting or collapse.

If you’re worried your pet may be overheating, contact your vet as soon as possible!!
