🎉May is veterinary nurse awareness month🎉

And our last nursing team member to introduce to is our head nurse Clare.

Clare qualified in 2015 and has an extra certificate in exotic and zoo animals nursing.

Her favourite part of nursing is emergency care as she loves to see the team work as one in an emergency crisis and how everyone comes together for their patient.

🐾 Charlie the Cockerpoo came in to see vet Ewen for a dental procedure after suffering a fractured carnassial tooth.

We carried out full dental X-rays to check the health of all his teeth, gave them a thorough clean, and removed the damaged carnassial tooth. 🦷✨

Charlie was a very brave boy throughout his procedure, and we’d like to wish him a speedy recovery! 💙

🎉May is veterinary nurse awareness month🎉

Kim is one of our RVNs who qualified in 2018.

💉She is our 'vampire' nurse because she can get a blood sample from anything!

Her favourite part of nursing is working with exotic patients and she looks forward to working towards a bigger caseload at Swaleside. She also really enjoys getting to know our clients and patients.

Gorgeous Olive is waiting for the treat drawer to open.

She's very polite and even knows paw!

So we obviously caved to her demands and supplied treats and cuddles.

🎉May is veterinary nurse awareness month🎉

Emma is one of our qualified registered veterinary nurses (RVN) who qualified in 2024. She enjoys nursing all our patients but the felines have a special place in her heart! (Having 5 herself)!

Our registered nurses work behind the scenes placing intravenous catheters, taking blood samples and getting all our wonderful patients ready for their operations.

Emma likes nurse consults where she gets to meet everyone. Nurse consults can involve senior consults (checking over our geriatric patients who don't need to see a vet but need to be monitored), weight clinics, second vaccinations, a**l gland expression, claw clipping, blood pressure monitoring or blood sample taking and much more. Our nurses can also do our VIP 6 months checks or monthly puppy checks that come included in our VIP plans.

🎉May is vet nurse awareness month🎉

So we are reintroducing the team.

Tash is one of our nursing care assistants who is also soon to take her exams to become a veterinary surgeon. (As she has previous qualifications from a different country which requires exams to register as a veterinary surgeon in the UK).

Due to Tash being on the RCVS register as a student vet she is able to obtain blood samples, place intravenous catheters and also can assist in surgeries.

🎉May is veterinary nurse awareness month🎉

And we're reintroducing the team!

Sophie is our student veterinary nurse who is very close to completing her studies and becoming a fully fledged RVN. She started at Swaleside when she was just 18 years old!

Sophie studies hard at college and has already passed all of her written exams and assignments she has taken so far. She has also completed 3 years of an online log which records and tracks practical clinical skills she must complete before qualifying.

Training to become an RVN takes between 2 and 4 years, requires passing written exams, assignments and practical exams. Alongside learning all the theory and practical skills.

It is not easy and we are very proud of Sophie for doing so well!

Gorgeous Dave the tiny sausage 🌭 came to see us for his vaccination recently.

Then we got cuddles 🥰

Vaccinations are incredibly important to protect from several diseases that can be fatal if contracted, especially when so young. Puppy vaccines are normally given at 8 weeks and 12 weeks old to make sure the little cuties are protected before they start wandering into the world, where they are more likely to come into contact with diseases.
