Glue on shoes applied to a fantastic polo pony whilst recovering from a deep infection in her left hind foot. The benefits of this approach is there is no invasive procedure using nails and the materials are soft and shock absorbing, all shoes also have frog support, which distributes weight of the horse over a wider surface area and reduces localised pressure which improves the health of the foot (especially the back half of the foot). This application has proven very effective in rehabilitation of this amazing horses feet.

A lovely little riding pony seen today having struggled with a longstanding bacterial infection ”cavity “. On observation of this amazing pony walking she lightly stabbed the ground lateral toe first and I believe this trauma on a repeteative scale is causing the wall to weaken due to the stress and become infiltrated by infection. I decided to make a shoe that would float the outside toe quarter and I re built the compromised area with a hoof re build that would provide protection and hold the medication in place. ’llbetheDavemade

A great response from an amazing little pony on the yard with us. showing signs of cushings (but vet won’t test until colder weather conditions). In the mean time I got to work to try and make this amazing little pony more comfortable.
In the first stages of rehab this amazing pony was uncomfortable holding his foot up for any length of time and I wanted to allow him to stabilise so I chose to apply storafoam support which within 24hrs the foot had compressed the styrofoam to a point/position where he was comfortable, i then over the weekend wanted to apply a base that wouldn’t deteriorate so quickly, and I removed localised pressure from the toe that was occurring in the styrofoam through compression (which I was cutting out and applying impressions material at the back half and sides to reduce pressure over the sole. This idea was a good primary phase step but as a result of him feeling better I found him more mobile and the pads weren’t offering enough heavy duty stability and support.
So we quickly decided to take the next step to designing and making a Davemade clogg….
This base offers protection, an omi directional weight bearing influence reducing lever arms on a very painful exterior wall that is separating away from the sensitive laminae. This Aplication will Also centralise the weight (loading) under the bony column more effectively by engaging more of the foot surface area thus reducing localised pressure on the walls(I used soft impressions material to do this efficiently.
I also grooved the wall at the top of the coronary band to reduce the influence of the lower seperated wall levering away at the new horn growing down(I wanted to keep the capsule strong).
The cloggs were held in place by two screws either side of the wall and the clogg was secured by cast material to maximise security and stability. The results are very promising and he is showing signs of instant improvement in comfort which is what I wanted to achieve.

A nice treatment on a lovely pony with a bad bacterial infection (seedy toe) on the outside toe quarter as a result of stance and posture and way of naturally going encouraging that specific area to be under trauma from overloading.
I made a lateral support toe clipped hind with a wide outside branch and a clip to add stability. I fitted a frog support pad with medicated impressions material to distribute weight (load) over a wider surface area rather than concentrating over the outside of the foot an some shock absorbing medicated impressions material to make this base more efficient. I also used a strong medicated patch to hold the medication in place and increase stability in the outside toe quarter. ’llbetheDavemade

Making a footsore recovering Lamonitic pony’s day more comfortable with a Davemade clogg. Sadly cloggs are not available in this amazing ponies size….. and this was a fantastic new challenge for me to custom make and fit some that would accommodate him and make him feel comfortable. After Application we noticed an immediate improvement and he continues to progress through his rehabilitation. This pony is an amazing example of determination and commitment. ’llbetheDavemade

A great success yesterday on a senior equine with compromised conformation. I achieved reasonably success with a conventional clogg but yesterday went a step further by simulating her previous clogg angle wear pattern. The results were fantastic with no transitional time period having to get used to a new base. For this amazing equine who has previously struggled with mobility she is now in a great place.
