Big changes are coming to veterinary pricing across the UK. These new CMA rules are designed to make costs clearer, improve transparency and help pet owners make informed decisions before treatment.

It’s important to remember that every pet and every case is different, so emergency or complex treatment costs can still vary. The new rules simply aim to make routine pricing and communication much easier to understand.

PART 1. Things I’ve genuinely said to dogs recently…

When you spend your days with dogs, you end up saying some very unusual things out loud…

“Why are you spooning a waffle?”
“You are NOT a cow.”

As a couple of examples

But can you work out which dog each phrase belongs to?

Why don’t I use balls on my group walks?

Because my goal is calm, fulfilling walks—not creating more excitement.

For some dogs, balls can lead to obsession, frustration, competition and even resource guarding. They also encourage repetitive sprinting, sudden stops and twisting, which can put unnecessary strain on joints and muscles.

Instead, I encourage dogs to sniff, explore, socialise appropriately and engage with their surroundings. These natural behaviours are far more enriching and help dogs return home feeling calm, fulfilled and ready to rest—not overstimulated and searching for the next throw.

This isn’t about saying fetch is wrong—it’s simply why I choose not to use balls on my group walks.

It’s a tough life being a dog. Whilst most of a walk will be calm, sniffing and exploring the new location. There is always a little burst of crazy or mischief during the day keeping me on my toes.
