🌞 Keeping Our Dogs Cool in This Heat 🐶💙
With the temperatures soaring, it's so important to remember that our dogs feel the heat much more than we do. Some breeds, especially flat-faced (brachycephalic) dogs like Stanley, our gorgeous English Bulldog, are at a much higher risk of overheating because they struggle to cool themselves efficiently.
Please remember:
🐾 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler.
💧 Make sure fresh, cool water is always available.
🌳 Keep them in the shade or indoors where it's cool.
🚫 Never leave a dog in a parked car – even for a few minutes.
🔥 Check the pavement with the back of your hand. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for their paws.
🧊 Cooling mats, damp towels, paddling pools, and frozen treats can all help keep them comfortable.
Watch out for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, wobbling, or collapse. If you think your dog is overheating, move them to a cool place, offer small amounts of water, cool them with room-temperature water (not ice-cold), and contact your vet immediately.
Stanley loves the sunshine, but because he's an English Bulldog, we have to be extra careful to keep him safe and comfortable. ❤️
