Family together again 🤍

After 7 years of my cousin living in Australia, we finally got to see her and her husband again, and most importantly, finally meet my beautiful little niece 🥹

Getting to spend time together with my all my southern family made it even more special!

It’s funny how years can pass and life can change so much, but when family is back together it somehow feels familiar again.

A little bittersweet knowing the time together never feels long enough, but so grateful for these moments and memories. 🤍

Family really is everything.

💉🐑 Bluetongue vaccine day… finally. 🐑💉

A few weeks ago I was genuinely terrified we weren’t going to get the vaccine in time. Bluetongue seemed to be creeping closer and closer, and waiting for that little box to arrive felt like a very long wait.

But it’s here, and our first lot are done. 🙌 All of our breeding ewes and rams have now had their first vaccination.

Unfortunately I was completely useless for this one after a riding accident on Monday night has left me rather battered and bruised, so I had to sit this job out. Anyone who knows me will know how much I HATE not being able to help. 😂

Thankfully it was a proper group effort. Bobby, his mum and our friend stepped in and did an amazing job getting everyone through and vaccinated. Very grateful for good people when you need them. 🩷

And the irony of farming…

A few weeks ago I was worrying about bluetongue AND whether it was ever going to rain.

Now the sheep are vaccinated, the fields have the smallest hint of green, and it’s absolutely tipping it down. 🌧️😂

I don’t think I’ve ever been so pleased to see rain.

One big worry feels a little bit lighter today. 🐑💉🌧️

Hebridean lamb sorting done for another year 🐑🖤

We went through the ewe lambs looking for a few suitable for dog training and only ended up pulling out a handful… which has left us with the rather nice problem of having far too many ewe lambs that we really like. 😂

The plan now is to get them registered and start sorting through which ones will head to the york rare breeds sale.

That might be easier said than done, because every time we look through them the conversation seems to be, “Well… I really like that one.” 🤦‍♀️

And a little shoutout to Isla, who was on hand to help with the sorting and remind everyone why we need those dog-training lambs in the first place. 🐑🐕

🐑🩷13 pictures for 13 years together 🩷🐑

From when life looked very different, to somehow ending up with sheep, muddy boots, endless jobs and a life that’s very us. 🐑

13 years with Bobby. Plenty of laughs, plenty of disagreements, a lot of hard work, and a lot of memories made along the way.

We might not have the most glamorous life, but I wouldn’t swap the fields, animals, chaos and quiet little moments we’ve built together.

Here’s to 13 years of us… and probably many more years of arguing about who left the gate open 😂🤎

Sheep sorting, but apparently Mum and I can’t be trusted with livestock markers 😂🩷

And before anyone panics, it’s RAIDL livestock marker and it’s non-toxic… although I’m fairly sure using it on each other wasn’t the intended purpose 👀🐑

A lot of sheep sorted, lambs graded and decisions made, but still plenty of time to have a laugh!

A big sorting day for the flock 🐑

We got the lambs in, separated the Lleyns and Norfolk Horns, then came the much harder job… grading the Hebridean lambs.

We started with over 20 Hebridean ram lambs to choose from, and somehow managed to whittle that down to just 5 to overwinter. Definitely some difficult decisions in there, but we simply can’t keep them all!

We’ve also picked out 5 ewe lambs for dog training, while the rest will either be overwintered, sold privately or head to a Society sale. I’m very impressed with this years ewe lambs!

It’s always hard choosing what stays and what goes, especially when you’ve watched them grow all summer, but it’s an important part of managing and improving the flock.

And swipe to the end for Isla doing a very good job of stopping the lambs making a break back to the field… followed by a slightly less dignified ending in the water trough 😂🐕💦

A little corner of green 🌿✨

Mornings with the sheep, afternoons in the garden, herbs and beans growing wild, a cat never too far away.

There’s a little bit of magic in a quiet countryside life. 🌙🐑

A little end of summer hair refresh 🍂🤎

My colour was looking a bit tired and faded, so I spent the evening giving it a refresh at home.

Fresh colour, cosy evening, and starting to feel ready for September 🍁

A little reminder that hard seasons don’t last forever.

Things can feel heavy, uncertain and completely stuck, then slowly, almost without you noticing, they start to shift.

Keep going. Better days are coming. 🤍

It’s getting harder and harder not to worry about what the next few months are going to look like.

Anyone else starting to feel genuinely concerned about the months ahead? Because I feel as though this is constantly occupying my head…
