✨ As May comes to an end, we want to express our gratitude to all Veterinary Nurses out there for Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month ✨

Although it may seem that nurses just cuddle puppies and kittens all day, they are actually highly skilled professionals who can do more than some may think, including but not limited to:

Monitoring anaesthetics
Laboratory work
Health checks
Blood sampling
Assisting with/or doing ultrasounds
Minor surgery, including suturing and mass removals
Client education

✨ A special mention to our nurses at Henlow Vets Royston ✨
Sophie, Registered Veterinary Nurse
Faith, Registered Veterinary Nurse
Ella-May, Registered Veterinary Nurse
Ellie, Student Veterinary Nurse (soon to be qualified)
Charlotte, Student Veterinary Nurse

☀️ With the hot weather approaching this bank holiday weekend remember to look after your furry friends ☀️

Heat stroke is a medical emergency and with temperatures expected to reach 32° this weekend, please avoid walking your dogs during the day.

Signs of heat stroke include, but are not limited to:
Heavy panting
Excessive drooling
Lethargy
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Red gums
Collapse

If you suspect your pet has heat stroke, move your pet to a cooler environment immediately and put cool (but not cold) water over them. Then call the practice (either us or Henlow Veterinary Centre).

Never cover your pet in a wet towel; this traps the heat in and will raise their temperature further.

To help avoid heat stroke, ensure your pets are kept in cool environments with fresh water available 24/7. Cool mats can be a great way for your animals to help regulate their temperature themselves. Avoid walking dogs in peak temperature, either waking them early in the morning or in the cooler evenings.

For any questions, don’t hesitate to get in contact with us.
