Maize has several natural risk factors, including its relatively slow growth pattern and open ear, which can make it more prone to mycotoxin challenges.

That’s the question we’ve been asking following a challenging growing season.

This year’s prolonged heat and dry conditions have put crops under environmental stress, and our testing is now showing a higher mycotoxin challenge in feed following those conditions. 🔬

The important point?

𝗠𝘆𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘆𝗲.

While mould may be visible on forage, mycotoxins are invisible chemical substances produced by certain moulds. And importantly, forage doesn’t need to show any visible signs of mould for mycotoxins to be present.

So even when your forage looks perfectly normal, there could still be a hidden mycotoxin challenge.

That’s where 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.

Visual assessment alone can’t tell you whether mycotoxins are present or at what levels.

Because when growing conditions have changed, it’s worth knowing what has changed in the feed.
