Bluetongue update 🐄
Rydym wedi cael ein hachos cyntaf o Dafod Glas-3 wedi'i gadarnhau ar fferm ger y Bala. Rydym yn aros am ganlyniadau o fwy na 15 fferm (yn cynyddu'n ddyddiol) ar draws y Bala, Corwen, Rhuthun, Abergele a Llanrwst, a’r tebygrwydd yw y bydd y rhain yn bositif hefyd.
Mae canlyniadau'n cymryd mwy na phythefnos i ddod yn ôl. Mae hynny'n golygu bod y ffigurau ymhell ar ei hôl hi o'i gymharu â'r hyn sy'n digwydd mewn gwirionedd; gall llawer newid mewn pythefnos, ac mae'r lledaeniad gwirioneddol bron yn sicr yn ehangach na'r hyn y mae'r niferoedd wedi'u cadarnhau'n ei awgrymu.
Mae'n dal yn gynnar yn y tymor, gyda'r brig yn cael ei ddisgwyl ym mis Medi a mis Hydref, felly mae nifer yr achosion rydym eisoes yn eu gweld yn peri pryder.

We have had our first confirmed case of Bluetongue 3 on a farm near Bala. We are awaiting results from more than 15 farms (increasing daily) across Bala, Corwen, Ruthin, Abergele and Llanrwst, and we expect these to test positive too.
Results are taking more than two weeks to come back meaning the official case figures are well behind what's actually happening on the ground.
It's still early in the season, with the peak expected in September and October, so the number of cases we're already seeing is concerning.
Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect your stock. A large shipment arrived last week, and our receptionists have been flat out fulfilling orders from farms across the area. We've got good supply at the moment, though demand is high.

In sheep, we've seen:
Depression, recumbency, lameness and stiffness, swollen heads and front legs, nasal discharge, cloudy eyes, and sore, ulcerated mouths. Death is common. We've also dealt with several affected rams, which we don't expect to be fertile this season if they survive, something worth bearing in mind with tupping ahead.
In cattle, we've seen:
Depression, milk drop, animals going off feed, cloudy eyes, ulcerated muzzles, and lameness. In one group of weaned calves we saw scouring and deaths.
