🦉Badger our Brown Wood Owl is one of our most laid back owls on the team, and is always up for making a new friend.

If you'd love to volunteer with our birds, feel free to contact us directly or through our website. We would also like to thank our existing, dedicated volunteers. Here is Sandra and Badger after a morning flying session in our Old Rose Garden arena.

🦅Did you know?

The Black-chested Buzzard Eagle is not a buzzard or an eagle. Their scientific name, Geranoaetus melanoleucus, translates from ancient Greek to English as the "black-and-white crane eagle", belong to a small genus of raptors found in South America.

🦉Did you know? Tawny Owls leave their nest before they truly fledge in a behaviour called branching. At this young age they develop excellent climbing abilities, and turn the tree canopy into their very own gymnasium. Sometimes a young tawny owl can fall to the ground whilst practicing their new moves, and we receive a lot of phone calls this time of year regarding helping young tawny owls.

If you do find a tawny owl on the ground:
👀Know that mum and dad probably have their eyes glued to their young. They will continue to care and feed their young.
🪜They will probably make their own way back up the tree without intervention.

If you are concerned about the youngster, whether it's due to being in immediate danger or seems to have sustained injuries, please follow the following steps:
📲Please call a local wildlife rescue.
⬅ Move the young owl out of danger, but not far away from it's location. Only do this if there is immediate danger to the owl, such as being on a busy road.

🌼Have you being partaking in no-mow May?🌺

Our Sky Hunters' display is home to Muncasters' wildflower meadow- with around 70 unique species of wildflower and perennial grass type. The wildflower meadow is part of our wider conservation work to protect native habitats and raptors, and is supported through generous donations by our guests.

To hear more about our conservation efforts, join us any day of the week for our 3 unique flying displays.

Vultures are a keystone species. They are a foundation block of our natural environments. We can't live without our keystone species, which is why we work hard here at Muncaster Hawk & Owl Centre to change the general perception of vultures from villains to heroes.

To hear more about our incredible African Hooded Vultures, join us at Muncaster Castle for our 2pm Sky Hunters display.

📸Thank you Ryan Thompson for this capture of Mouse, our African Hooded Vulture.
