THEY ARE EVERYWHERE AT THE MOMENT

This is not news to experienced owners, but if you are a new dog or cat owner, hopefully this will be helpful.
Tick activity increases in the warmer temperatures of spring and summer.
They wait on tall grass or plants and simply grab onto a dog as it brushes past.
Once attached, ticks burrow their mouths into the skin and begin feeding on blood. Because they start off extremely small, they can be easy to miss at first.

As it feeds it swells quite noticeably, sometimes growing to the size of a small pea if it goes undetected for several days
Aside from causing irritation where they bite, ticks can also carry bacteria capable of spreading disease including Lyme disease.

Symptoms can include lameness, lethargy, fever, loss of appetite and swollen joints.
The most common places to find them are around the ears, eyes, under the collar, between the toes, armpits, groins and along the belly.

At LB Petcare Services we recommend you regularly check your pet by running your hands thoroughly over their coat. If you do locate a tick we recommend using a tick removal tool. These are easy to use and available from your pet store or online for a few pounds. If you do have any problems, contact your vet for removal.
Tweezers can cause the tick to break, leaving the mouth part embedded. Trying to burn it off or smother in Vaseline is not advisable as it causes the tick to regurgitate into the dog’s bloodstream, spreading more bacteria.
Protection options can include vet medications or natural alternatives like sprays and amber collars.

🐶 Warmer weather can affect your dog’s appetite.

As temperatures rise, some dogs may become less interested in their meals or eat a little less than usual. This can happen in warmer months, although any significant or ongoing change in appetite should always be checked with a vet.

🐾 The right walk starts before we even leave the house.

When I plan group walks, it is never a case of simply putting dogs together and hoping for the best.

Every dog has their own personality, confidence level and way of enjoying a walk. Some love company. Some need a calmer pairing. Some are better suited to a solo walk where they can have more space and one-to-one attention.

I have been doing this since the start of 2019 and many of the dogs I walk have been with me for a long time. That means I get to know what suits them, who they enjoy being around and how to make each walk feel safe, happy and fun.

That planning is a big part of the care behind LB Pet Care Services. 🐶

Building that familiarity with pets over time makes such a difference, especially when they stay again in the future. Knowing they are comfortable, relaxed and happy in my care is always the aim and it is lovely to see dogs like Buzz settle in so well.
