Some days are too hot for proper walkies.

That doesn’t mean your dog has to miss out completely. It just means changing the rhythm of the day.

Try:

• Early morning or later evening walks
• Fresh water available at all times
• Shade and rest during the hottest hours
• Frozen treats or lick mats
• Supervised chews indoors
• Short toilet breaks instead of long walks

When the weather’s hot, some dogs slow right down. Walks get shorter, appetites can dip and fresh water becomes even more important.

Karnlea Bone Broth is a handy to keep in for days like this.

Available in Chicken, Beef and Lamb, it can be used in a few simple ways:

• Pour a little over their usual food
• Serve as a tasty extra in a bowl
• Freeze into cubes for a cooling treat
• Spread onto a lick mat and freeze
• Add to enrichment toys for calmer indoor time

It’s a simple way to add flavour, support hydration and make mealtimes a bit more tempting when the heat is taking the edge off their appetite.

Perks of the job! The UK is in the middle of a heatwave and suddenly the walk-in freezer seems like the most attractive office in the building. 🥵❄️💻

Don’t worry, I wasn’t in there long enough to start answering emails as a frozen food product.

Hot days call for shady spots, slower walks and a little freezer magic.

Our Goat’s Milk is supplied by a local Dorset farmer and comes frozen to preserve the product. It’s palatable, easy to digest and can be used as a treat, meal topper or the base for simple home-made doggie ice creams.

You can keep it plain, or make it feel a bit more special with small amounts of dog-safe extras, such as:

• Mashed banana
• Blueberries or strawberries
• Grated carrot
• Cooked sweet potato
• A small spoon of xylitol-free peanut butter
• A splash of Karnlea Bone Broth for a savoury version

Simply pour into an ice cube tray or lick mat mould, freeze, then serve as a supervised cooling treat when your dog needs something calm and refreshing.

Keep portions small, especially if your dog has a sensitive stomach, and always avoid grapes, raisins, chocolate, onions, garlic, macadamia nuts and anything containing xylitol.
