🌱🐾 Your journey is your own 🐾🌱

It’s human nature to compare ourselves to others and this is something I have spoken about before and no doubt will again at some stage in the future.

You see when your canine comes into your life, you will walk a path together. A journey of some sorts and you may think this journey will be linear, plain sailing or a walk in the park.

And sometimes this is the case.

However, sometimes you land a dog that will turn your life upside down, take you on a journey with more curves in the road then there is straight paths and leave you questioning everything.
And with such dogs, we can often find ourselves comparing our own journey to that of another.

But we can’t compare ourselves to others as our journey is unique to us.

That partnership with your canine is unique to you as a pair.

And when we do fall into such a pattern, it just adds to the turmoil and starts all those inner stories we tell ourselves and become our truth.

So the next time your canine guardian leaves you questioning your sanity, and you can feel yourself comparing yourself to others, put in a pause, and remember the journey is for the pair of you.

And is unique to you both. No one else.

🌱🐾 Your second brain 🐾🌱

Did you know that your gut is often referred to as your second brain? The same can be said about our canines. Yes you read that right, and for as well known as this is in some circles, we also still don’t talk nearly enough about this important piece of information never mind how much of an impact it can have on our canines behaviour.

The gut, brain axis is very real.

In a nutshell, if the gut is off, the brain is off and if the brain is off, the guts off. It works both ways.

This can be a problem that can be brewing under the surface from as early as your puppy coming into this world as well as being influenced by so many external influences throughout their life.
Diet, environmental factors, numerous treatments, uses of medicines, anaesthetics are just a handful of examples of what we should be taking into account when we break down this important relationship in our canines.

Chronic periods of stress are also another huge contributor in overall gut health.

Likewise times when the nervous system has been kick started in extreme into survival mode, the gut is effected by signals travelling from the brain. Think explosive butts.

How does this look and manifest in our canines in terms of behaviour?

The canine that hyper fixates far too easily and doesn’t have an off switch, the overly biting puppy, the canine that cannot settle, the one that hates to be touched. The noise sensitive individual. The overly anxious one.

There is no one answer here and it’s why we should be taking into account this massive wellness piece for our canines when we are supporting them both in the long term and on their journey overall.
So if you are seeing no change in your canines behaviour with just training alone, have you looked at their gut health? Could there be something else effecting the overall picture?
Maybe it’s time to dig a little deeper.

And for those that are ready to hear it, those gut changes/issues you see in your dog, are they just your dogs, or is there a possibility they are mirroring you?

🌱🐾 Feeling stuck 🐾🌱

Have you found yourself questioning your journey with your canine guardian and no matter, how much you dig deep, you are just not shifting the dial to the outcome you imagined.

I will let you into a little secret, you are not doing anything wrong. You just haven’t been given the whole picture.
How do I know? Because I have been exactly where you are and I know that feeling, the one where you’ve tried everything, given it your all and still nothing seems to stick. And you find yourself slowly, quietly, starting to wonder if the problem is you. Some professionals may even tell you this.

It isn’t you, it’s not what you are doing, it’s that you are working with half the information.

But here’s what I’ve come to understand working with guardians just like you, when nothing sticks, it’s rarely about effort or consistency. It’s almost always because something underneath hasn’t been addressed yet.

The behaviour on the surface is never the whole story. There’s always a root. And until we find it, and I mean really find it, nothing layered on top will hold.

That’s not a reflection of your ability as a guardian. It’s a reflection of how much has been left out of the conversation.

You haven’t been getting it wrong. You’ve been working without the full picture.
If that resonates, tell me where you are. What’s happening, what you’ve tried, how it’s landing. Let’s start unpacking it together.

🌱🐾 Self selection 🐾🌱

A little story time for you all as let’s face it our animals truly are the best teachers if we allow them to be.
Have you ever found your animal guardian going to town munching on the greenery in the garden, from grass to your bedding plants, maybe it’s the nettles or the chickweed now it’s all come to life. It could even be your herb garden, much to your dismay.
If you have an equine guardian, you could have noticed some foraging in the hedgerows.

None of this is incorrect, it is all information and it is your animal tapping into their innate ability to seek out what their body needs to support itself and maintain health.

🌱🌱🌱

My gang all have their favourite spots in the garden and on our local woodland walks. Torvi is all for the nettles and her incredibly bizarre option of coal she keeps uncovering in her surroundings. Bramble, Echo and Luna are all for the grasses which are full of natural sugars. Berezi is for my mint plant, the comfrey that I didn’t know I had growing in the garden and some chickweed.
Zazzy and Poppy have some more controversial options that I will cover in a separate post.

Rather than panic, or reach to remove them from their activities, I simply observe. I gather the information, I ask the question of what do they need to support their health and wellbeing.

Sometimes when we let go of control we actually get the most important information that can make all the difference and give us the puzzle pieces we need to form the bigger picture.

What is it that your animal guardian is drawn to. Are they opting for eating what nature provides, are they rolling around in certain plants (this is a big one for our felines) or spending more time sniffing certain scents?

I would love to see your shares on this one

🐾🌱 What’s stopping you 🌱🐾

Now there is a question…

Our canines are fabulous teachers, they enter into our life and intertwine their journey with ours and before you know it everything shifts.

However, this journey may not always be plain sailing or that’s what it seems on the surface, but 9 times out of 10 even the smallest struggle that your canine brings to the surface is to uncover something, they brings a lesson to the surface.

Human nature has us seeing these struggles as a hinderance, as something that we have done wrong, as something to control us…

the list goes on.

So let’s look at it from a different angle.

Is it purely your dog is simply struggling with the busy modern world we expect them to thrive in? We as humans often struggle to thrive so is it fitting that we wouldn’t expect our dogs to.

Did your communication simply shut down somewhere along the way and it’s just a tweak that needs to be addressed.

Or and this one is usually the one we want to ignore. Is the story you are placing on your canine actually showing you something you need to look at in yourself?

There is no one right answer nor is there a one size fits all solution, it would be easy if there was.

Now I am going to leave you something to ponder…

whatever it is that you are facing with your canine guardian, what is it that is truly stopping you from making the changes, for doing the work?

🌱🐾 Asking for a little help 🐾🌱

Now it appears that for whatever reason our posts are not being pushed out whatsoever, if I didn’t know better I would suspect there is a shadow ban in place and as times are incredibly hard already, I am asking for a little help.

If you are seeing this post, me and the gang would be greatly appreciative of some interaction to give everything a little boost.

It can be a comment telling us what you are getting up to in this gorgeous weather and bank holiday weekend or simply a like.

It may seem like nothing, but it can make all the difference to us

🌱🐾 Clarity 🐾🌱

Your puppy has waltzed into your life like a whirlwind rather than a calm breeze and there is a level of confusion that has you questioning if you made the right choice.

Let’s unpack it a little

“You researched everything. And it’s still this hard.”

You researched everything you thought you needed to know about welcoming a puppy into your life, yet it’s still this hard.

Firstly, I want to acknowledge that.
The fact that you prepared, that you had the conversations, that you thought it through before your puppy even arrived and that in itself matters.

That tells me everything about the kind of guardian you are even if it really feels the complete opposite at this moment in time.

But here’s something worth knowing.

Puppies don’t read the books we read. It would be great if they did, nor do they come pre-programmed like many believe they do.
Nor are they a blank canvas like you were possibly led to believe.

Many puppies simply don’t fit into the conventional box we’ve been handed and no amount of research fully prepares you for the individual and wonderfully complicated puppy sitting in front of you.

Have you ever heard the saying, you don’t get the puppy you want but the one you need? That is exactly what has transpired, even if you are feeling lost on your journey.

Feeling lost doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’ve reached the edge of what the conventional approach can give you.
And that’s actually a really important place to be.

So tell me where are you feeling it most? Is it one specific thing, or does it feel like everything at once? Send me a message or drop it below. Let’s find a path forward together.

🐾🌱 An invitation 🌱🐾

It is time for Plant, Paw and Hoof to begin and I am opening up 4 spaces for a founding cohort that are ready to step onto a different type of journey with their canine guardian.

The Rooted puppy programme is indeed aimed at puppies, however if you feel called to explore a more holistic approach with your canine of any age you are of course welcome here as it is never too late to explore an alternative path especially if you feel that your current training protocols are not aligned with the outcome you have experienced.

It could very well be the piece of the puzzle you have been missing.

Now I wish to be clear from the get go, The Rooted puppy programme is not a regular training programme, nor is it designed to be an immediate behaviour fix.

It isn’t really a training programme as traditional standards approach, what it is, is a complete reframe of what it means to live alongside an animal.

For those ready to start building the most practical and physical foundations required for a life long journey and for those willing to go that little bit deeper, a genuine transformation that you perhaps weren’t expecting.

It is for those that feel like the modern world no longer aligns with their belief system and you feel called to explore outside the box but have no idea where to start.

It’s for those looking for connection rather than compliance.

Those wanting a relationship built to last rather than instant results.

If this sounds like it is something you wish to learn more about then this might just be the programme for you.

The founding cohort will only have 4 spaces available, it will of course be the full 10-week programme offered at a reduced investment in return for your feedback that will help shape what comes next.

If you feel this aligns with you, then drop me a message or use the link in the comments to book for free discovery call to learn more.

🌱🐾 Zoopharmacognosy 🐾🌱

A bit of an introduction to this topic area, and one that has multiple names to it now including animal self-selection, Animal botanicals, Animals self-healing, so what is Zoopharmacognosy?

Our animal counterparts still have the innate ability to use plants, and other natural products to self heal on a physiological level.
The body is designed to always strive for a state of homeostasis and when that balance falls out of sync we are met with dis-ease and the pathways with the animals body kick in and do what they do best.

Wild animals have access to a selection of plants, clays, herbs etc. within their wild environment and can seek out what they need depending on their health and well-being. In captivity, or domesticated settings animals don’t always have the same opportunities to practise this innate ability, however you will witness your pets opting to choose to eat certain plants on walks, this is more than coincidence, this is them tapping into that ability of theirs to support their body.

In a nutshell, it is that simple.

Humans have lost this ability as such, as we have become disconnected to it. However, those cravings you get? yes that is this ability kicking back in, the more you listen to it and tap into this, the stronger it becomes, however compared to our animal counterparts it remains quite weak in comparison.

Now this is a topic i will continue to unpack further moving forward but just to give you a taster of how vast this area is and its multitude of uses to support your animal guardian, here is just some of the ways we can harness this amazing ability to support and work with your pet:

* Nutrient deficiencies
* Stomach and digestion issues.
* Anti-viral concerns
* Anti-bacterial concerns
* Anti-fungal concerns
* Hormonal concerns
* Skin
* Pain
* Emotional well-being and relaxation

Want to learn more about this area, I would love for you follow and support the page as I delve into this area in more detail.

My diary is also open with limited spaces for animal botanical sessions for canine, feline and equine counterparts.
