🇪🇺🐾 Travelling to the EU with your pet?

If you’re travelling from the UK to the EU with your dog, cat, or ferret, your pet will require an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) before travel.

✔️ The AHC must be in the language of the first EU country you enter
✔️ Rabies vaccination must be completed at least 21 days before travel
✔️ An Animal Health Certificate can be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) within 10 days of travel

⚠️ The owner must also:
• Travel within 5 days of the pet
• Attend the appointment to sign the owner declaration confirming the pet is not being sold or rehomed

Some EU countries also require a tapeworm treatment before entry, so it’s always best to check requirements early.

📄 If the owner is not travelling within 5 days of the pet, or if a pet is travelling to a new home abroad, a different certificate is required called a Commercial EU Certificate.

🇪🇺 **What is an Animal Health Certificate?** 🐾

An **Animal Health Certificate (AHC)** is the document used for dogs, cats, and ferrets travelling from the UK to the EU.

✔️ Issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV)
✔️ Can be completed up to **10 days before travel**
✔️ Required for entry into EU countries from the UK

⚠️ Your pet must travel:
• With the owner on the same journey
OR
• Within 5 days of the owner’s arrival into the EU country

Your pet will also require:
✔️ A working ISO compliant microchip
✔️ A valid rabies vaccination

📄 An Animal Health Certificate can only be used for travel into the EU and to return back to the UK. It cannot be used for entry into countries outside of the EU.

🇺🇸 Travelling to the USA with your pet? 🐾

If your pet is resident in the UK, the travel requirements for the USA are usually very simple:

✔️ A working ISO compliant microchip
✔️ A valid rabies vaccination completed at least 21 days before travel
✔️ A fitness to travel certificate

🐶 Dogs travelling to the USA will also require a CDC Dog Import Form before arrival.

✈️ Pets can also travel to the USA in cabin or as excess baggage, however this is airline dependant, so it’s always best to check directly with your airline before booking.

⚠️ Requirements can vary depending on the airline and travel plans, so it’s always best to prepare early.

🔎 Microchips and pet travel 🐾

Microchips are one of the most important parts of international pet travel.

For travel, pets should have an ISO compliant microchip. While some countries can accept older AVID 9-digit chips, the standard 15-digit microchip is accepted worldwide and is strongly recommended.

⚠️ Your pet’s microchip must be implanted before any vaccinations, blood tests, treatments, or paperwork are completed, as this is how your pet is officially identified throughout the entire process.

You can have a microchip implanted on the same day as vaccinations, but it must be:
✔️ Implanted before the vaccinations are given
✔️ Scanned and recorded by the vet before any work is completed

The microchip number should also be recorded on all paperwork, as this becomes your pet’s official identification for travel.

💙 Microchips are important at home too

If your pet ever goes missing, their microchip can help vets or rescue centres identify them through one of the UK microchip databases and reunite them with you quickly.

Most breeders will microchip puppies and kittens from a young age, so it’s very important to:
✔️ Update the microchip into your own name
✔️ Make sure all paperwork matches the correct microchip number
✔️ Check the paperwork also shows the new owner’s correct details

Keeping your details up to date could be a lifeline if your pet is ever lost.

• A photo of one of our own team members
• A copied article from the GEM Pet Network

The page also contains incorrect information, including claims of offering road transport services across Europe — services which we do NOT provide.

Please be extremely cautious when speaking with this account or anyone claiming to represent them.

⚠️ For clarity:
• We do NOT provide quotations through Facebook Messenger
• We do NOT confirm or book pet transport through Messenger
• All official quotations and bookings are handled through our official company communication channels and emails. Our emails always will have our domain and we never use gmail!

If you receive messages from an account claiming to be us and would like verification, please email us directly with screenshots of the conversation and we will happily confirm whether the communication is genuine.

We are incredibly frustrated that someone is attempting to misuse our company identity and potentially mislead pet owners using stolen information and images.
