An Animal Health Certificate is required for pets travelling from the UK to the EU and confirms that all travel requirements have been met before departure.

For many pets travelling from the UK, Canada is one of the simpler destinations for pet travel. ✈️

The requirements will usually include:

✔️ A working ISO compliant microchip
✔️ A valid rabies vaccination
✔️ A Fit to Travel Certificate completed by your veterinarian

📋 In some circumstances, pets travelling directly to Canada may be able to travel using an Export Health Certificate (EHC) for Canada instead of getting a rabies vaccination and fit to travel certificate.

However, this is not generally recommended, as many airlines still require a valid rabies vaccination before travel.

⚠️ Requirements can vary depending on your airline, routing, and travel plans, so it is always best to check before you travel.

Nova first visited us for her blood testing as part of her travel preparations, and today she returned to complete her final Export Health Certificate. With all of her veterinary requirements now complete, she's ready to begin her exciting adventure.

A Fit to Travel Certificate is a document completed by a veterinarian confirming that your pet is healthy and fit to travel.

Unlike an Export Health Certificate (EHC), a Fit to Travel Certificate is not an official government export document. Instead, it is usually requested by airlines or required for entry into certain countries.

✔️ Confirms your pet is healthy and fit for travel
✔️ Completed by a veterinarian following a health examination
✔️ May be required by some airlines before travel
✔️ Commonly used for destinations such as the USA

⚠️ A Fit to Travel Certificate is not the same as an Export Health Certificate (EHC).

Some destinations may require only a Fit to Travel Certificate, while others may require an Export Health Certificate, import permits, blood testing, or additional paperwork.

Today we welcomed Alfie and Ada to Dedicated Pet Care Clinic as part of their journey to Australia!

Both dogs completed their rabies blood sampling and identity checks, an important step in meeting Australia's strict import requirements. As required by Australian regulations, their identity checks were carried out by two independent OV66 veterinarians from separate veterinary practices, ensuring everything was completed correctly and in line with the import protocol.

They were both stars throughout their appointments, and we look forward to helping them with the next stages of their travel preparations.

Good news! Pet travel to China is now much simpler than it used to be ✈️

For most pets travelling from the UK, the requirements include:

✔️ An ISO compliant microchip
✔️ A valid rabies vaccination
✔️ A veterinary health check before travel
✔️ An Export Health Certificate (EHC)

📋 The Export Health Certificate is valid for 14 days from the date it is signed by your veterinarian, so timing is important when planning your journey.

🛂 During the Export Health Certificate appointment, your veterinarian will also need to see the owner's passport, as this information is required to complete the paperwork.

🎉 One of the biggest recent changes is that the previous isolation requirements have been removed for pets travelling under the new Chinese import certificate, making the process much more straightforward for many owners.
