Lots of our furry travelling friends are winding their way back to the UK this week 🐾🚗so we thought it was a good time to remind everyone that we have a handy tapeworm treatment timing calculator on our website to help you work out when the treatment should be given (linked in the comments 👇).

Remember that Pet Travel Pass customers can email a photo 📸 of page 4 of their AHC after it has been completed by the vet and we will check the tapeworm treatment table for you 🕵️‍♀️

✅Tapeworm treatment 24-120 hours before arrival in the UK 🇬🇧 (remember to factor in the hours time difference!)
✅The tablet must contain praziquantel 💊
✅ The tablet must be given by a vet who needs to complete the table at the bottom of page 4 of the AHC 📝
❌ Tapeworm treatment is not required to return to the UK directly from Ireland 🇨🇮
❌ Cats do not need to be treated for tapeworm before returning to the UK 😸

🥵 Protect your dog from heat stroke this summer! Look out for heavy panting, drooling or lethargy and act quickly- heatstroke has a 26% mortality rate but fast action saves lives 🦸‍♀️

Here’s what to do if you suspect your dog has heat stroke:

❄️Cool the dog with COLD water: Sadly a 2023 study showed that only 22% of heat stroke patients were cooled prior to being transported to a vet. Rapid cooling using cold water saves lives!
📞Call the vet: Contact your nearest vet to let them know you’re on the way. They can prepare the necessary equipment in advance so your dog is treated as quickly as possible
🚗Transport to the vet: Use an air-conditioned car to keep the dog cool enroute
❌Avoid wet towels: Don’t drape the dog in wet towels; a warm layer quickly develops underneath- use COLD running water

💭Remember- WET THEN VET! ❄️💦👩‍⚕️

Read our blog post in the comments for more information about heat stroke prevention and treatment 👇

Handsome Scout is a little worried about vets 😟 but was a star for his AHC collection with his dad scanning his chip ⭐ We often ask owners to scan their pets microchip for us; not only is it less stressful for nervous pets but it is good practice for owners who will be asked to scan their pet at the tunnel or ferry. So please don't worry if your furry friend is wary of strangers, they can even have their chip checked from the comfort of the car 🚗 and of course we always carry treats to win over our more reluctant customers 😋

Lots of our lovely furry travellers 🐾 are on their way back to the UK soon after enjoying their summer holidays abroad 🌞 It's important to remember that dogs (but not cats 😺) need tapeworm treatment before coming back to the UK.

💊What? The tapeworm treatment must contain praziquantel- visit the blog post linked in the comments for more details
🕓When? The treatment must be given by a vet 24-120 hours before you arrive back in the UK. Use our handy tapeworm treatment calculator linked below 👇 to work out when your dog's tapeworm treatment should be given
📝Where? The vet must complete the table on page 4 of the AHC. Always check that the table has been completed correctly before leaving the vets! If you're a Pet Travel Pass customer you can email a photo of the completed tapeworm section for us to check🤓
