As part of our commitment to sustainability and our environment we are always looking for ways of reducing unnecessary pharmaceuticals entering the environment. One area of concern is worming treatment which, especially when given as a collar or spot on, risks entering our environment and water courses. We are going to be offering in house faeces worm egg count analysis to give our clients peace of mind and accurate information on whether your pet needs worming. We think these forms are vitally important to our patients! They are known as pain scores. All pets show pain in different ways - some change their behaviour, others change their hear rate, some become aggressive, some hide away and some just change their facial expression. Patients, especially prey species such as rabbits will hide signs of pain so these charts enable us to check a range of criteria and give a number for each category. At the end of the chart these numbers are added up and give a good indication as to whether the pain relief that patient has is suitable for their pain level. There have been several studies showing these pain scores are the best way of assessing patient comfort and we believe they are just one of the ways we can provide the best possible care for your pets whilst they are in our hospital 😃

Puppy and Kitten Fun at Toll Barn Vets!!!! We believe it is essential to help you get the best start for your new family member and most importantly we believe you should be able to enjoy your new family member without having to worry about their healthcare! This is why we offer our Puppy and Kitten Clubs at Toll Barn Vets. All puppy and kitten vaccine packs include 5 weeks free insurance, flea and worming, a full healthcheck, useful tips and information (and of course some treats!). All our puppy and Kittens are also invited to FREE OF CHARGE clinics with our qualified nurses where you can get your new addition weighed and healthchecked and we can remind you of any healthcare needs such as flea and worming. It also gives you a chance to ask any questions and gives us a chance to have lots of cuddles with puppies and kittens which we hope will help them feel more confident coming to the vets in future! Pet Insurance - We regularly get asked for advice regarding pet insurance as the pet insurance market can be very overwhelming. If you choose to take out insurance there are some top tips to help you get the best from your policy :
1 - Get a lifetime policy so you have peace of mind your pet will be covered for their lifetime
2 - Check whether your policy ties you to a particular practice or group of practices - whilst these policies may look attractive initially no-one knows what will happen in the future and these policies become invalidated if you ever need to change vet practices or relocate to a new area and therefore a new practice. Any problems your pet has had during these policies would then be excluded from any subsequent insurance policy you purchase.
3 - check the level of cover you have and whether this is per condition or per year to make sure you are comfortable with the level of cover on offer.
4 - check whether your policy has any hidden clauses such as percentage excesses or exclusions for particular conditions. It is also worth asking if your policy premium will increase if you make a claim as these sorts of policies are best avoided.
We recognise how difficult it can be to choose the right policy for your pet so don't hesitate to contact your insurance company to check what they are offering. Our vets and nurses are always happy to advise on top tips of things to look for in a policy.

Thank you so much for your wonderful words. Autumn was rushed in to our 24/7 on site emergency service when she was attacked by another dog whilst out on a walk. Poor Autumn suffered severe damage to her ribcage and abdomen resulting in her staying in our hospital with intensive nursing for a week. She has made a fantastic recovery and is back at home with some much needed TLC. We are incredibly proud to be able to make a difference to our patients lives.

Did you know Toll Barn Vets is proud to be one of only two veterinary practices in the entire of Norfolk (and one of only 4 in Norfolk and Suffolk combined!) to have a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine? This means that after qualifying many years of further study has been undertaken to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Zoological Medicine. Following a rigorous application and examination process the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has then deemed the level of knowledge and skill advanced enough to be named an Advanced Practitioner. This qualification covers rabbits, guinea pigs, small mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and zoo species and gives our clients and patients reassurance that they are receiving the best possible care :)

Our onsite luxury pet hotel cares for pets whilst owners are on holiday. We are delighted to have been awarded a 5* rating following our recent inspection 😃 We understand how stressful going on holiday can be when you own a pet, especially if
your pet is elderly or on long term medication. Our Luxury Pet Hotel caters for cats and small mammals (including rabbits) whilst owners are on holiday. We hope this provides peace of mind that pets are receiving the best possible care from qualified vets and nurses during holiday periods.
The Pet Hotel offers a purpose built and fully licenced boarding cattery with 6 purpose built enclosures within a self contained fully heated and air conditioned cattery which is also equipped with its own ventilation system to ensure no unpleasant lingering aromas. The UPVc designed enclosures and medical grade flooring ensure hygiene and warmth for our guests, and the design ensures privacy so that neighbouring guests can’t see each other to avoid any stressful encounters.
Cat owners know that their Cats like to exercise but also enjoy taking some time out for relaxation. To cater for this our enclosures have a large raised sleeping area in addition to an exercise area which contains toys and activities to keep our guests entertained.
All our guests are cared for by the Toll Barn Vets staff which means they have a fully qualified vet and nurse available to them 24/7 should they need it. This also enables us to provide any daily medication your pet requires and to monitor any health problems they may have, allowing you to have your own a stress free holiday knowing that your pet is receiving the best possible care.

Our extensive facilities include separate cat, dog and exotic pet waiting areas and hospital wards, a laser therapy unit, onsite CT scanner, digital xray, ultrasound, blood pressure, ECG and tonometry, an in house laboratory, dedicated operating theatres, a luxury pet hotel and memory garden. Our Very Important Pet Clubs also offer the chance to save money and budget for routine pet care including vaccinations and flea and worming treatment as well as receiving additional discounts on other products and services. We believe in offering the best level of care possible and offer free of charge clinics with our qualified veterinary nurses to ensure your pet remains in tip top condition including parasite prevention clinics, socialisation clinics, new pet checks and much more!
