Hector, a handsome red Labrador, was out enjoying a walk around the dunes on Winterton beach when he was bitten by an adder🐍 Luckily, his owners brought him straight into the practice, where he received prompt treatment. We are happy to report that Hector made a full recovery!❤️🩹
This is a great reminder to all dog owners to be vigilant during the warmer months, as adders are the only venomous snakes native to the UK.
To help prevent bites, consider the following tips:
🐍Keep your dog on a lead in areas with long grass, moorland, or coastal dunes where adders are known to be found.
🐍Avoid walking your dog during the warmest parts of the day, as this is when adders are most active.
🐍Stick to clear, open paths rather than letting your dog roam into dense undergrowth.
🐍If you see an adder, keep your distance and keep your dog away from it.
If you suspect your dog has been bitten by an adder, stay calm and keep your dog as still as possible to prevent the venom from spreading. Carry your dog to your car if you can and head straight to your nearest vet, calling ahead to let them know you're on your way. 💚
