SCENT WORK is back! (by request) Some years ago we started Scent Work and we admit we got it a bit wrong........ too serious.... (Did you really want your dog to work at an airport? 😁) Saturday 20th September we start our FUN 'Scent Work Beginners' at 1.00pm. No classes tomorrow (Weds 13th August) due to high temperatures..... This is in line with our policy on dog health and wellbeing, we don't operate above 24 degrees. A week will be added to the end of this training season, in compensation. See you next week, heatwaves permitting :).

SOCIAL EVENT - Afternoon Tea

As a club we are a wonderfully friendly and sociable bunch and we meet at the Club so many weeks of the year but the Club doesn’t do anything much that is sociable, outside of dogs. When our wonderful Bronwen Bell founded the Club there was always an element of charity and community in what we did and maybe we have let that slip a bit. And so:

On Thursday August 21st at 3.00pm we will host a Summer Afternoon Tea at 3.00pm in the Clubhouse of our good neighbours and friends... Bradfield Cricket Club. Included in the ticket will be be:

Summer Bradfield Tea
Finger sandwiches (served 4 different breads),
Mini sausage roll,
1 fruit/ and 1 plain scone served with jam and clotted cream,
Selection of 4 mini cakes
Pots of tea or coffee

Or

Savoury Bradfield Tea
4 finger sandwiches ( Served on 4 different breads)
2 mini sausage rolls / cheese and marmite swirl
1 cheese scone
1 stilton & walnut scone
Fruit cake served mild cheddar
Plus, cream free cakes
Pots of tea and coffee

All prepared by our professional Chef and Agility Trainer Debbie Wright.

There will also be a short talk entitled: "Dogs… How? Why?” How did modern breeds come about and why were they developed.

There will also be a chance to meet those mysterious people not in your class, you know….. the ones that you pass in the car park 😂

Any profit made will be rounded up by the Club and donated to a dog charity decided by attendees on the day.

Sorry but this is one event where furry friends will not be expected to attend.

The cost is: £20.00 per head and everyone is welcome; members, friends, family or someone you drag in off the street, The cricket Club is licensed so anyone wishing a bottle of Prosecco with their 'tea' would need to email separately for cost and we will provide, if agreed.

We only have limited places but we are looking for this to be a number of social and charitable events throughout the year so don’t despair if you miss out this time.

August is a big month at Animal Magic..... 'Kids n Dogs' will run a four week course for first timers on Mondays at 5.30pm, starting Monday 11th August to coincide with the middle of the School Summer Holidays. Have fun and become an Animal Magic Junior Dog Handler..... Available to book on our website.

AGILITY and FLYBALL taster sessions. Ever thought you might like to try either? We are offering six taster sessions, in each, starting at 3.00pm on Saturday the 9th of August. East session will last ten minutes. These sessions are free. If you would like to try either discipline just send us a quick email and I will allocate you a slot. If demand is too great we will add more in due course don't despair

Today is the last session in our Young Handler’s course; Kids ‘n’ Dogs. This is the second that we have run and it is proving to be a most successful addition to our list of courses offered. It returns in August….

ADULT DOG SOCIALISATION – This is for dogs over eight months with a view to building the confidence of nervous dogs and addressing lead reactivity.

Not to preach or nanny but:
Don’t walk or exercise in the heat of the day
Keep plenty of water available
Hosepipes and pools are great
Draping wet towels is good
Cool floors to lie on
Wet towels to lie on
Avoid parked cars and conservatories
Road and path surfaces get very hot

A lady messaged this morning to say that she would miss her class as her dog had been bitten by an Adder. I read that it’s been a bumper Spring for Adders as it has been so warm. Be watchful when walking! Particularly woods and heaths.

HEAT! as you will have noted it is a little warm. In line with our maximum 24 degrees policy tonight's class is postponed. Also postponed is Saturday 11.00am, although please note that 9.00am and 10.00am will still be running. Puppy Socialisation - Saturday 2.15pm is OFF. Remember hot surfaces can burn paws and any exercise above 24 degrees is not sensible for your dog (or me 😊)
