A little video to sum up why I have such a soft spot for Collies 🥹

Moss had his first walk with us today, a little nervous and unsure to begin but soon felt more comfortable. As always, I sit down for a short time and bond with the dogs, with lots fusses and kisses. This was his first time, we don’t know much about each other yet, but he sat in front of me, and didn’t hesitate to shower me with love🥰

When I tell people I have a Border Collie myself, the reaction is always “wow, you must be out walking for hours, they’re so energetic”, which isn’t always the case. Yes, they are more energetic than most dogs, but with the right exercise and brain stimulation, they quite literally are the best breed. Most people think of Collies as only working dogs, crazy, hyper never stops, some also call them neurotic… but they miss out on their sweet, loving nature as well!
You’ll never know another bond like it once you’ve gotten to know a Collie🐾

I count my blessings every day to work with such an amazing breed. Their work ethic is inspirational, fascinating and nothing less than incredible. With the right understanding of them, the bond between you and the dog will be indescribable 🙈

We took full advantage of a considerably smaller group this morning ✨

I decided to introduce a retrieval exercise to the pack for the first time! Despite them never doing this before (except for Mali) I was so incredibly proud of all of them🥰

What are the benefits of this exercise?
• Impulse Control – Asking dogs to wait instead of sprinting straight after the ball is fantastic for building impulse control. They have to pause, think, and wait before they’re allowed to fetch!

• Sniffing – This gets their brains working just as much as their bodies. Sniffing provides essential mental stimulation, which means a more fulfilled (and tired) pooch! 😴

• Building Drive – The anticipation of waiting for the ball increases excitement and motivation. When they can’t access it instantly, their desire to work for it grows, which in turn makes the reward more valuable.

• Working Around Other Dogs – Not all dogs get regular practice being patient around others. These exercises help them slow down, focus, and build valuable manners and tolerance.

• Breed-Specific Enrichment – Doug and Daisy, our Retrievers, were truly in their element this morning. This exercise came so naturally to them, despite it being their very first time!

So proud of the pack this morning, will definitely keep up with a bunch of different games to keep things interesting. Lots & lots of learning to be done by myself also, but I love every minute ❤️
