❌Let’s talk CPL❌
Chronic progressive lymphedema (CPL) is an incurable lymphatic system disease that mainly affects heavy type horses (cobs, drafts etc), causing progressive swelling in their lower legs. It's characterized by poor lymph drainage, thickened skin, and skin folds and nodules.
Clipping the legs of a horse suffering with CPL can significantly benefit them. Clipping helps manage the condition by improving visibility of the legs, promoting airflow, and facilitating the application of treatments like topical creams and compression bandages. It also helps prevent the buildup of moisture and dirt, reducing the risk of secondary infections and improving overall hygiene.
