Windmill Dressage - Livery & Stud

Windmill Dressage - Livery & Stud A small private livery yard and stud 10 minutes from Addington. This section is about us and what we do! A brief profile of each mare is outlined below.

We have organised our photos and albums to try and give an impression of the yard and our horses so please browse the photo albums. Each of our mares has her own album for herself and her progeny. We always have top quality youngstock - from foals to freshly backed horses for sale at sensible prices so if you are looking for your next prospect do get in touch! THE LIVERY YARD: we have excellent

facilities including 60 x 20 m arena with mirrors, covered horse walker, lunge pen, individual turnout, direct access to off-road hacking and top quality stabling. We pride ourselves on offering unsurpassed, personal and experienced care in a friendly and supportive environment - after all for most people this is their hobby, it needs to be fun! THE STUD: we have handpicked 5 broodmares from top proven continental bloodlines (mainly Hanoverian) and mainly sourced with the expert guidance of our friends Christian Heinrich and Darren Mattia. Until Autumn 2016 the breeding programme was based with Darren Mattia at Court Farm Stud in Herefordshire but we have now managed to secure some land and built the facilities to have the majority of our horses at home. Darren is still chief midwife and a great source of advice! We are aiming high in our breeding ambitions: we strive to produce exceptional dressage talents with excellent temperaments and rideability and with potential for the highest level. Having been lucky enough to own two Grand Prix Horses and a further 3 small tour horses we now dream of seeing a homebred rise to these levels. 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow' and in a short period of time we have been proud to be awarded 4 Elite premiums at the BEF Futurity out of 5 entries (the 5th missed Elite by just 3/100!). THE MARES
BELLA VANUTA (Bella): by Benvenuto (Breitling W x Weltmeyer) x Don Schufro x Akzent I. Bella is our foundation mare and has produced 5 stunning foals for us to date and is one of the highest rated mares at the BEF Futurity based on the performance of her offspring. Following a fabulous filly foal by the exciting young stallion Santo Domingo (San Amour x Furst Heinrich x Royal Dance) in 2016,
Bella is back in foal to Santo Domingo for 2017. We have retained her 3 year old Fred Astaire by Fiderbach and 4 year old Frank Sinatra by Foundation who will be backed this year. ELEGANTE (Delia): a direct daughter of the legendary Donnerhall and from one of the most celebrated mare lines in Oldenburg - the Egitta line. This fabulously bred mare (who is also the sweetest person and a yard favourite) has already produced in 2017 an exceptional black colt (born 6-3-17) by Hochadel and named Helsinki WD. Since I am looking to retain a filly from Delia's line, Helsinki will be sold in due course

WOLKE SIEBEN (Betty): By Wolkentanz x Wanderbursch II x Exponent. A wonderful, powerful mare with a fantastic hindleg, she has given us two outstanding colt foals (both BEF Elite) to date. She comes from one of the oldest damlines (Stamm 809) in Hanover. Her stunning and very typey 2016 colt by Floriscount has been retained. Betty is in foal again to Floriscount for 2017. BARBARELLA (Brenda): Another outstandingly well bred mare for top level performance: by Bertoli W the grand prix son of Breitling W (also grand prix and known as 'the Grand Prix producer'!) and from the famous 'Olympic' mareline of Herbert de Baey that produced multi Olympic medal winners: Rembrandt, Ahleric and Amon. In addition this line has produced numerous influential licensed stallions: the legendary Rubinstein (I and II), Royal Angelo I and I, Romancier, and the current 'hot' stallion Bordeaux amongst others. Bren is in foal to Dimaggio for 2017 - himself a World Champion and producer of many Grand Prix horses and is also damsire to double World Champion Farouche. STATE PREMIUM DOLCE NERA (Dolce): By Don Frederico x Weltmeyer x Shogun XX. A former mare-show champion in Germany, this big black mare is striking in her looks and movement. We have retained her big moving 2016 colt foal by Bordeaux and eagerly await her 2017 foal by San Amour.

If I ever wonder why Vera has the best work ethic and temperament it is because she is out of a wonderful Donnerhall mare … and Donnerhall also appears in the pedigree of Vitalis. No wonder she is such a ‘Donnerhall stamp’ and I’m proud that she continues to wave the flag for this legendary stallion

# 👑 Donnerhall: The King of Dressage Who Changed Horse Breeding Forever

Few horses can claim to have shaped an entire sport. But Donnerhall? He didn't just shape dressage—he *defined* it. 🌟

Born on May 31, 1981, this dark chestnut Oldenburg stallion became the most influential dressage sire the world has ever seen. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that .

# # From Humble Beginnings to Stardom 🐴
Donnerhall wasn't born with a silver spoon. He was bred by Otto Gärtner, sired by Donnerwetter out of the mare Ninette. At his Stallion Performance Test in 1984, he placed second out of 70 horses—impressive, but not exactly a prophecy of the legend he'd become .

But here's where the story gets interesting: according to his rider Karin Rehbein, he was **incredibly easy to train**. He reached Grand Prix level in just two years. Two. Years. 🤯

# # A Competitive Career for the Ages 🏆

Let me paint you a picture of this stallion's dominance:

- **Over 65 FEI Grand Prix victories**
- **1994 German Dressage Champion** in Mannheim 🏅
- **Team Gold & Individual Bronze** at the 1994 World Championships in The Hague
- **Team Gold & Individual Bronze** at the 1997 European Championships in Verden
- **Third Team Gold** at the 1998 World Championships in Rome

He was named **Oldenburg Stallion of the Year** in 1998 . He won the World Cup European League that same year. The man (or should I say horse?) was unstoppable.

His signature moves? The passage, piaffe, and extended trot—all executed with such expression that audiences were left breathless .

# # But Wait... It Gets Even Better 🧬
Donnerhall's sport career was legendary, but his breeding career? **That's what made him immortal**. ✨

Check these stats:

- **Highest dressage breeding value of all stallions: 271**
- **77 approved sons**
- **450 broodmares** (84 of which were State Premium)
- **Over 636 competition horses**

At the 1998 Federal Championship in Warendorf, **more than 50% of horses had Donnerhall in their pedigree** . That's not influence—that's a dynasty.

# # The Donnerhall Legacy 👑
His sons became legends in their own right. **Don Frederico**, **De Niro**, **Don Schufro**, **Don Primero**—these names are still dominating dressage rings worldwide .

In fact, the **Sandro Hit-Donnerhall combination** proved so effective that even decades later, it's considered the gold standard in dressage breeding .

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Donnerhall's blood was **still everywhere**—in the pedigrees of top horses across multiple nations .

# # The End of an Era 💔
Donnerhall retired from competition in 1998 at age 17, going on a "farewell tour" that celebrated his incredible career. He passed away on January 14, 2002, from acute intestinal toxicopathy .

But here's the truly wild part: **even after his death, his influence continues**.

In 2018, a foal named **Nostalgic BH** was auctioned at the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag—one of the very last direct offspring of Donnerhall . The breeder used ICSI technology to create this pregnancy from frozen semen. That's how much the world still wants a piece of Donnerhall magic.

# # What Made Him So Special? 🤔
According to breeders, Donnerhall passed on **rideability, temperament, presence, and flowing gaits** to his offspring. He crossed particularly well with P*k Bube and thoroughbred bloodlines .

His offspring weren't necessarily all lookers—many didn't inherit his looks—but they got what really mattered: that **brilliant demeanor and trainability** that made him a champion .

# # The Unbreakable Legacy 🐎
In an era where bloodlines come and go, Donnerhall remains the measuring stick. One breeder put it perfectly: "For the last 35 years, the number one dressage genetic by miles producing Olympic Grand Prix superstars has been Donnerhall and Donnerhall sons. There have been other very influential lines, but nothing has ever got even close" .

# # So, What Do We Learn? 🌟
Donnerhall wasn't just a horse—he was **the blueprint for modern dressage**. He proved that the perfect combination of athleticism, trainability, and temperament could be passed down through generations. He made the impossible look effortless.

Rest in peace, you magnificent chestnut king. Your legacy lives on in every extended trot and passage executed by your descendants. 🕊️✨

Fabulous Vera - close 2nd with 69% at Bury Regionals in only her 5th PSG and still only a 7 yo. Particularly pleased with her today - she dug deep for Jayne. We just 💕💕💕 this little mare with all her grit, talent and enthusiasm (thinking about it - a lot like her rider!!)

🤞for a wild card - but even if it doesn’t come along I couldn’t be prouder of her and looking forward to all the training we plan over the winter - she will be one to watch next year!

What can I say Vera lives up to her own incredible standards at Hartpury. The Elite Stallions young PSG competition is open to 7-9 year olds (poetically Elite Stallions supplied the Vitalis semen that produced her!).

This year of 18 entrants Vera was the only 7 year old. In addition we were lucky to have it judged by a panel of International judges (here for the CDI) - and they take no prisoners! The scores she achieved would have been middle order in the Small Tour CDI - incredible since she has now done just 4 PSGs in her life.

Not only did she embrace the atmosphere, put on her game face without flinching (particularly in the gala evening) but she gave her all - as she always does! A bit tired for the gala and a couple of bits of greenness but nonetheless amazing. We were beyond thrilled to be 5th in the final behind some genuinely world class 8 year olds. We went into the competition genuinely having no expectation of even getting to the final (we’d already planned our journey home). Just a snippet of our gorgeous girl - no fireworks and not as produced as many but to my albeit biased eye still a lovely young horse! And watch out next year!! Jayne - as always - held her hand and guided her thru - so lucky my youngsters have this wonderful sensitive and kind rider laying the foundation for their competitive live.

It was also really lovely to see so many old friends from ‘back in the day’

God Bless Vera! The youngest horse (the only 7 yo) in the young psg at Hartpury in a field of 8-9 year olds. Great opportunity to get her before a team of International judges too. She was fabulous and loved every minute of it. We were beyond thrilled with 5th (despite a green mistake in the threes). Looking forward to going forward to the Gala final on Saturday night! Just awesome mare! 😍😍😍. Super job by Jayne too - she has done everything with Vera - they are such a great team

I think our horse is being pampered somewhat Daniel Sherriff Dressage!!!

Can’t wait to see them all next week!

She blows my mind - fabulous 7 yo Vera - 72.8% in her second PSG - she never disappoints
