We have such a lovely dog walking community 🥹🤍

Bit of a soppy one today but I just wanted to take a minute to talk about my fellow dog walkers and my journey into this business.

When I first started this business I felt quite isolated. After ten years in the NHS, I'd been used to busy wards and offices, colleagues that became friends and very little time to myself in a working day.

When I started this business I suddenly had no colleagues, and comparatively little social interactions. Of the few dog walkers I knew, one was very cut throat, for them it was about eliminating the competition, monopolise the area and drive all the other walkers out of business. It felt cold and frankly, quite lonely being pushed towards that mindset.

Thankfully, over the last couple of years I've been able to get away from people with such a mindset and have actually been able to mingle with a lot of the other dog walkers in our local area and I'm grateful to say that the wider community is not the same as what I experienced at the start of this journey.

The dog walking community, minus small exceptions is one of warmth and support. There's no big competition, and no hostility. From stopping for a quick chat when I get back to the van, to messaging for advice about a particular issue, to referring on potential clients that they could not accommodate, the dog walking community really is a lovely place to be and I now feel like I have colleagues again.

Despite being a one-person operation, I do feel like I have my own little team. We shouldn't need to put another business down to make our own look better, we can all just be proud enough of what we offer to not need to try and point out someone else's short comings.

Without further ado, I'd just like to say thank you to the following dog walkers. Big or small, you have in someway shown kindness and support and made me feel welcome in what was initially quite a lonely journey.

So thank you, and let's keep this community a welcoming one, with the dogs at the heart of it 🥰

And to the other local pet professionals I haven't yet had the pleasure to meet, I'm sure you're all lovely too 😊

We are heading into some extremely busy months now with home boarding. 🫣😴 (I love it really)

Copied from another walker but very true

Here’s to all the dog walkers who have had to cancel walks this week.

To the ones living paycheck to paycheck, making the heartbreaking decision to put the welfare of the dogs first — even when rent is due, bills are piling up, and the food shop still needs paying for.

You are my heroes.

These weather extremes are hitting hard. And sadly, this is becoming our new normal — wet winters, unbearable spring and summer heat, one extreme after another.

Over the couple of years, so many new dog walkers have started their businesses, stepping into this industry at one of the toughest times imaginable.

The weather hasn’t just affected our income — it’s affected our mental health too. The stress, the uncertainty, the constant worry… it takes its toll.

And on top of all that, the cost of living has risen so dramatically.

Fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, insurance, food prices, rent, mortgages, utilities — everything has gone up, while many of us are earning less because of cancelled walks and unsafe temperatures.

It’s an exhausting balance trying to keep a business afloat while also trying to survive personally. For so many dog walkers, it feels like no matter how hard we work, we’re constantly trying to catch up.

But still, we keep going.

Why?

Because this is more than just a job to us. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a passion. It’s something we pour our whole hearts into every single day.

No matter the weather, no matter the setbacks, we continue showing up because we love these dogs like they’re our own.

So to every dog walker struggling quietly this week — I see you, I respect you, and I hope you’re proud of yourself for putting the dogs first, even when it costs you. 🤍🐾🐾

We have had the best couple of days in York celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary.
The only downside was I couldn't believe the amount of dogs we saw being dragged around in 30 degrees heat! 🥵

We are now back home and sorting the diary for early morning walks tomorrow as the weather has the audacity to be warm again. 😅

Today is our 14th wedding anniversary and we are spending it in beautiful York 🤍

Happy bank holiday weekend everyone! ☀️🥳🌷🌸

It's been a wee while since I've done a small business Saturday!!

I want to give anyone who owns a small business (even fellow dog walkers) the opportunity to mention their page below in the comments and tell us a little about what you do in hopes you will gain a customer or 2.
I think it's so important to support eachother when and where we can!

Please don't be shy and post below.... Please 🤣🤣

Calling all fellow dog walkers!!!

What are your Top 3 treats? Pop it in the comments below ⬇️⬇️
I might do this every now and then in hopes it helps other dog walkers or dog owners but will be a different topic each time. 😁🐾🐾

I'll start... My favourite dog treats are Nature's menu freeze dried treats in the flavour Turkey from VP Pet Hydrotherapy & Health Centre Morecambe, they are 100% natural and great for scattering. 😎
