The forecast for next week is looking very warm, and if it stays as it is currently, we’ll need to make some adjustments to our walks to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pups. If it changes and we’re back to rain / mild temps then please ignore this.
There will be two morning pack walks running Monday–Thursday, with all dogs home by midday. If you’re booked in, your time slot will already have been sent to you.
All mid-morning walks (apart from Tuesday) will take place on the secure field from 11:00am–11:50am. There is access to plenty of water and a hose for cooling down, and we’ll make a judgement on the day as to whether the walking time needs to be reduced further.
Those booked onto the second pack walk on Tuesday will have a reduced walk to ensure the safety of all pups. If the forecast remains as it is, it will be too hot for myself and Abbie to take them across the farmer’s fields for longer than around 20-25 minutes. We will prioritise toileting and ensure that the dogs have some time to sniff / interact with ourselves and each other. As always, we’ll assess conditions on the day and adjust timings if necessary.
While walks will still be going ahead in the mornings, it is important that all clients are aware that it will not be business as usual, and adjustments to walk times and activities will be made accordingly.
A quick reminder about heatstroke - dogs can overheat surprisingly quickly and it’s a serious medical emergency that can be life threatening. If you’re unsure of some of the early signs, they include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, difficulty walking, vomiting, and bright red gums. Some dogs are at higher risk, including older dogs, large breeds, overweight dogs, puppies, and flat-faced breeds, so please consider whether a pack walk next week will be suitable for your dog.
If you’d would like to cancel any walks next week, please drop me a message. As a reminder, at least 24 hours’ notice is required for a full refund - same day cancellations will not be refunded. If you’d like to cancel a walk but would still like a wee stop let us know with notice and we’ll do our best to accommodate!
