🧡 Three Common Mistakes That Make Grooming Harder for Your Dog 🧡
As a professional groomer, my goal is always to give your dog a safe, stress-free experience. But there are a few things I often see between grooming appointments that can make the process harder—and more stressful—for your dog.
Here are 3 common issues to watch out for, and tips to make grooming easier for both of you:
➡ 1. Skipping Regular Brushing
Mats and tangles can form quickly—especially in doodles, poodles, and long-haired breeds. Once matted, brushing becomes painful, and I sometimes have no choice but to shave your dog.
Tip: Brush and comb every few days, especially in friction areas like armpits, behind the ears, and around the collar.
➡ 2. Letting Hair Overgrow
It grows fast, I know! But hair over the eyes can cause irritation or infection, and long foot hair traps dirt and debris such as grass seeds. Mats can even form between paw pads.
Tip: Not sure how to safely trim? Ask me! I also offer tidy-up services between full grooms.
➡ 3. Bathing Without Brushing
Bathing a matted or tangled coat actually tightens knots, which leads to more discomfort for your dog—and a more difficult groom.
Tip: Always brush thoroughly before bathing. Need help? I’m happy to guide you or book a professional bath and brush session!
✨ Remember, a little maintenance at home goes a long way. My goal is always a happy, healthy dog—and a positive grooming experience every time!
