Now the summer has finally arrived we must remember to take extra care of our four legged friends and protect them from the heat 🌞 🥵
🌡️ NEVER leave a dog in a hot car, not even with the windows open. When it's 22 degrees outside, it can reach a deadly 47 degrees inside the car within an hour
🌗 Always walk dogs in cooler mornings or evenings, you should NEVER be walking a dog in the midday sun. Dogs can suffer from heat-related stress and this can very quickly become fatal
🤒 Be extra careful with brachycephalic breeds such as French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Pugs. They are already at a higher risk of breathing problems and any rise in temperature will only make these problems worse.
🐾 Place your hand on the ground for seven seconds, if the floor is too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws
💦 Make sure all animals have access to shade if they are outside and have a constant supply of fresh drinking water
🔥 Never leave animals shut in hot rooms such as conservatories or sheds
🌥️ Make sure any small animal hutches are out of the direct sun and in a cool shaded position
🪰 Check rabbits regularly for signs of fly strike, this can happen very quickly and is deadly. Also clean hutches more regularly on hot days to help deter flys
