DEFRA has now announced that Great Britain is in an avian influenza prevention zone (AIPZ). The short version of this is that all birds must now be housed, and strict bio-security measures must be followed. Please take the time to read the article and make sure you follow the rules and help to keep all birds safe.

Find out about the latest bird flu situation in England and guidance for bird keepers and the public.

And so it begins. At the moment it isn't a country wide lockdown it is only for certain areas, so please read the list carefully.

Dear Stakeholder
In response to a significant increase of findings of avian influenza in kept and wild birds, an Avian Influenza Protection Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory housing measures will come into force from 00:01 on Thursday 30 October 2025 to protect poultry & captive birds. Please see the press release on GOV.UK for more information.
This applies to all keepers of over 50 birds and all keepers who sell or give away eggs or poultry products (even if they keep fewer than 50 birds) in:
• Cheshire
• Cumbria
• Derbyshire
• Durham
• East Riding of Yorkshire
• Greater Manchester
• Lancashire
• Leicestershire
• Lincolnshire
• Merseyside
• Norfolk
• North Yorkshire
• Northumberland
• Nottinghamshire
• Rutland
• Shropshire
• South Yorkshire
• Staffordshire
• Suffolk
• Tyne & Wear
• West Yorkshire.
From this time, all keepers of over 50 birds and all keepers who sell or give away eggs or poultry products (even if they keep fewer than 50 birds) in these areas must house their birds and continue to follow stringent biosecurity measures. If you fall into a Protection Zone outside of these areas, you must also house your birds.
Please check GOV.UK for the latest information.
The AIPZ requiring mandatory biosecurity measures remains in place across GB.
Please also check the disease control zones on our avian influenza interactive map to see what restrictions are in place.
Definitive requirements are set out in the published declarations for each disease control zone currently in force. More information is available on GOV.UK.

If any of our customers know the owner of these hens could they please get in touch so we can arrange reuniting them after they were thrown over a 7 foot high fence into one of our fields. We refused to rehome them because they were covered in red mites. Fortunately our staff managed to catch the hens after they had finished riding the cows around the paddock!
