🐶 Meet Benny – Our Brave Little Visitor! 💙
This beautiful puppy, Benny, came to visit us recently in an emergency after accidentally eating raisins – a surprising but very serious danger for dogs.
Raisins (and grapes) can cause acute kidney failure in dogs, even in small amounts. The exact toxin isn't fully understood, and unfortunately, not all dogs react the same – but for some, even a few raisins can be life-threatening. That's why quick action is so important.
When Benny arrived, we immediately induced vomiting to help remove as much of the raisins from his stomach as possible. He was then placed on IV fluid therapy to support his kidneys and received activated charcoal in his food to help bind and remove any remaining toxins.
Thanks to his quick-thinking family and prompt treatment, Benny is now recovering well – and being his usual playful, tail-wagging self again! 🐾
💡 Reminder to all pet parents: Keep raisins, grapes, sultanas, and currants well out of reach of your dogs. That includes foods like hot cross buns, fruit cakes, and trail mix!
Stay safe, Benny – and no more snacking on forbidden fruits! 🍇❌
