☀️ Tips for Keeping Guinea Pigs and other pets Cool in Hot Weather

🌳 1. Shade is essential

Move cages or hutches out of direct sunlight.

Close curtains indoors.

Place outdoor hutches in the coolest, shadiest spot you can find. Remember to check throughout the day as the sun moves.

Create your own shade with sheets hung over a washing line, or a large garden umbrella. Don't cover their enclosure, allow good airflow.

🌬️ 2. Cool the air

Use a fan near (but not blowing directly on) the enclosure.

Keep windows open and ensure air can flow through the space.

❄️ 3. Frozen items help

Pop frozen water bottles (wrapped in socks or tea towels) into their enclosure.

Add chilled ceramic tiles or freezer blocks (wrapped) for them to lie on.

💧 4. Keep them hydrated

Always have fresh, cool water available.

Add a second bottle or bowl just in case.

Offer water-rich veg like cucumber, celery, or romaine lettuce in moderation.

🛖 5. Use breathable hides

Swap out plastic hides for natural, open-ended tunnels or wooden shelters.

Plastic traps heat — natural hides allow airflow and feel cooler.

🧹 6. Clean, cool bedding

Remove damp bedding daily — it holds heat and bacteria.

Offer loose hay rather than thick, compact piles.

⚠️ 7. Watch for signs of heatstroke
Look out for:

Panting or fast breathing

Drooling

Weakness or lethargy

Not eating or drinking

📞 Call a vet immediately if you're concerned, heatstroke is an emergency!

💕Meet Ginger & Spice – Looking for Their Forever Home 💕

These two adorable boys are Ginger & Spice, a lovely young pair of guinea pigs currently looking for their forever happy home together 💕

🩷 2 boys
🩷 Approx. 3 months old
🩷 Sweet, curious, and full of energy, a little nervous but they’re growing in confidence every day!
🩷 They will need an extra large enclosure to give them lots of room to run around and enjoy life.

They’ve started to show their cheeky personalities and are a joy to watch as they popcorn and chatter away together. Ideally, we’d love them to go to a home where they’ll be given plenty of space, love, and veggies!

I’m now fully booked 1st - 25th August for pet sitting. Limited availability for claw clipping during this time. I still have availability for the rest of the year. Cassie has kindly offered guinea pig nail clipping at a discounted price of £5 per guinea pig.
Cassie is a registered veterinary nurse, and also offers home visits for nail clipping and pet sitting services.
She will be available from 10.30am till 12.30pm. Drop us a message if you would like your piggies nails trimmed 💕 or pop and see her on the day to make a home visit appointment or find out more information on her pet services.
