Happy 1 Year Gotcha Anniversary, Archie! 🐾💙

Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone for our RVN Molly’s beautiful cat, Archie!

A year ago, Archie was sadly abandoned at one of our sister practices, taped up in a box. He arrived with very poor skin condition and was struggling with an untreated heart condition.

Molly instantly fell in love with him and gave him the second chance he truly deserved.

Fast forward to today, and Archie is absolutely thriving, his coat is in gorgeous condition, and he spends his days happily relaxing in the sun. ☀️

What an incredible transformation and a reminder of the difference love and care can make. Happy gotcha day, Archie! 🐱💕

Staff Pets Update! 🐾

VCA Jackie’s handsome cat Loki became very uncomfortable a couple of weeks ago and needed urgent blood tests and X-rays to make sure everything was okay.

The X-rays revealed that Loki has some arthritis, so he has now started Solensia treatment and we’re pleased to say he is already much improved! 💙

We’re so glad to see him feeling more like himself again!

Polly has made an incredible recovery following her enucleation and has now begun her vaccination course. 🎉❤️

She’s been an absolute joy to care for at the practice, she is such a sweet and affectionate girl.

Polly is now ready to find her forever home and is available for adoption through Cats in Crisis. Whoever adopts her is going to be very lucky to have such a special little companion 💕

Poppy 🐹💕

This beautiful piggy is Poppy. Poppy belongs to our amazing receptionist Claire at The Corner Veterinary Clinic

Claire had noticed Poppy developing some lumps, so she came in to see Dr Ellie for an operation to remove the lumps.

Poppy was a delight to have at the practice and we hope she recovers quickly from her procedure ❤️

A lovely update to brighten your day 💛

Jessie came in for a check-up yesterday, and we were absolutely delighted to see her looking so well!

A few months ago, we were called out to a home visit when Jessie was very poorly, so seeing her now happy, bright, and thriving was truly wonderful.

She’s made a fantastic recovery, and we couldn’t be happier for her and her family 🐾✨

🐛Flystrike is condition that affects small animals - especially rabbits, and occurs when flies lay their eggs on soiled skin
The eggs hatch into maggots that burrow into the skin, causing pain, infection and sever damage
It is most common in the warmer weather

Who Is at Risk?
Flystrike is most common during warm, damp weather. Flies (typically blowflies or greenbottles) are strongly drawn to warm, moist environments.

🐾 Soiled fur or rear ends: Animals that cannot clean themselves properly or have diarrhoea are highly vulnerable.
🐾Wounds: Open cuts, sores, or skin lesions are prime targets.
Ill or elderly animals: Pets that are weakened, immobile, or obese struggle to groom and are at greater risk.

Warning Signs
❗Visible eggs or maggots: Small white clusters of eggs or actively moving maggots in the fur or on the skin.
❗Foul odour: A strong, unusual smell radiating from the pet.
❗Behavioural changes: Agitation, restlessness, or unusual biting, scratching, or licking at the affected area.
❗Lethargy: Severe cases can lead to shock, collapse, or a drop in body temperature.

Prevention
💚 Regular checks: Inspect your animal’s fur and rear end daily, especially during warmer months.
💚 Good hygiene: Keep living areas clean, dry, and free of soiled bedding or uneaten food that attracts flies.
💚 Weight and diet management: Ensure animals are kept at a healthy weight and on a proper diet so they can groom themselves properly.
💚Veterinary products: Ask us about preventative sprays or treatments.

Beautiful Popski came in to have a pesky tick removed. Thankfully, she recently had tick treatment so the tick was dead and easy to remove. 🩵

With the warmer weather, we are seeing a huge increase in ticks (especially for dogs walked around the Epsom & Ashtead common area!)

If your dog needs tick control, please give us a call! 💕
