Hackney City Farm

Hackney City Farm Hackney City Farm provides the opportunity for children and the local community to experience farming

For Nearly 30 years, Hackney City Farm has been giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming right in the heart of the city. It offers an opportunity for children and adults to get up close to a range of farmyard animals and to learn about where their food comes from and why that matters. We host volunteers from the community as well as corporate groups and provide team-building experiences. Also a unique training, workshop, meeting and launch venue.

PIGLET UPDATE! 🥹🐷
-
Penny’s 10 piglets are almost 3 weeks old! They’re doing so well and Penny is the best mum! The piglets spend their days feeding, sleeping or playing with each other and zooming around! 🩷
We’ve been hosing Penny down to keep her cool during the hot weather recently and she has been loving it 🥰
-
Come and visit them! We’re open from Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰
-
FOLLOW along for more animal updates! 📸
-
Note:
Since September 2025, the farmyard has been completely unfunded – we rely on the kindness and generosity of our visitors to keep it going. 💚
🌾 Entry will always remain free, but if you can, our recommended donation is:
£2 per adult | £1 per child
You’ll find cash collection boxes around the farm, as well as easy card/tap donation points, or you can donate online through our website - link in bio. Every penny goes straight to the care and upkeep of the animals 🐖💛
Thank you for helping us keep the farm going for everyone to enjoy! 💝
-
We are partnered with an Open women’s prison that has a working outdoor farm attached.
The incarcerated people are taught animal skills such as pig keeping and rearing at the end of their sentence.
All our pigs are on loan from this Farm. Pregnant sows stay with us and give birth before going back to wean their piglets at around 8 weeks old.
The Prison Farm is passionate about high welfare standards which perfectly aligns with our values here.
We keep pigs at our farm as a learning resource so children, young adults and students gain essential animal husbandry experience to work in the industry.
It can be hard for children in London to access and learn about animals and so we hope to help educate 🤍

WE’RE EXPECTING! Any guesses on what birds?! 🐣🥹
-
We are so excited to announce our hatching project for this spring! The video shows us candling the eggs 🔦
-
Candling is used to monitor the growth of the chick. The darker shadow is where the embryo is and the lighter area is the air sac! 🩵

Bunny now vs her first day in the field 🥹🐑
-
Bunny is around 6 weeks old now and loves spending time in the field with all the other lambs 🥰
-
Bunny’s mum (Muffin) is a Blue faced Leicester ewe and she was in lamb to a Border Leicester ram, so Bunny is a cross between the two breeds! 🤍
-
The combination of the two breeds typically produces sheep that are super friendly, amazing mothers, and with soft and luscious wool! 🤩
-
Come and visit our lambs! We’re open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰

Our nanny goat Solar gave birth to little baby Prince a few days ago 🥹
He is the most chilled out little boy and Solar is being such a good mum as always 🥰
-
DID YOU KNOW?! 🦷
Goats don’t have any upper front teeth! Instead, they have a dental pad. When suckling, the baby’s tongue extends to cover their lower teeth and protect the mothers teat whilst they feed 🤍
-
Come and welcome Prince to the farm! We’re open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰

Can you believe Clover is 26 years old?! 🥹
-
Clover the donkey is our oldest resident, she spends her days in the field with Ash (our 3 year old donkey) 🥰
-
As she’s gotten older, Clover was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease - a pituitary gland disorder, common in older equines 🫏
There’s no cure, but with her daily medication, a special diet, and lots of cuddles, she is able to live a happy and comfortable life! 🫶
-
We’ve added some of the supplies we use for Clover’s care to our Amazon wishlist (linked in bio) along with other essentials for the farm animals 🚜 If you ever choose to donate something, send us a message and we’d love to show you the animals enjoying your gift 💝

She is our newest pig on loan and is expecting piglets in a few weeks time!🥳

She has settled into the farm perfectly - she’s really friendly and loves a tummy rub from our staff 🥰

Pigs are pregnant for 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days! 💗
Farrowing (the birthing process) lasts around 3-8 hours and piglets are usually born around 20 minutes apart 🐽
-
We are so excited to meet her little piglets and we hope you are too! 🥳

MOONBEAM GAVE BIRTH!! WE NEED NAME IDEAS 🥹
-
First-time mum Moonbeam has given birth to an adorable baby girl! Moonbeam and her daughter are both doing really well! They’ve been enjoying the sun by spending their days out in the field with all the other ewes and lambs! 🥰
-
Moonbeam was our final mum-to-be so her little lamb means lambing season has officially ended at the farm! 💗
☀️ In the UK, most lambs are born in March-April when conditions are most optimal:
🐑 Fresh, nutrient-rich grass
🐑 Milder temperatures
🐑 Longer daylight hours
🐑 Higher survival rates
🐑 Natural breeding cycle
-
NAME IDEAS!! 🌙
Our sheep are named after your suggestions from last year! (Moonbeam, Crumpet, Waffle, Muffin & Peardrop) 🥰
💌 We’d love your help again in naming our last lamb of the season, so drop your BEST NAME IDEAS in the COMMENTS! 👀
-
SWIPE to see Moonbeams daughter having a nap with Bunny (Muffin’s lamb!) 😴💗
