Hackney City Farm provides the opportunity for children and the local community to experience farming

For Nearly 30 years, Hackney City Farm has been giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming right in the heart of the city. It offers an opportunity for children and adults to get up close to a range of farmyard animals and to learn about where their food comes from and why that matters. We host volunteers from the community as well as corporate groups and provide team-building experiences. Also a unique training, workshop, meeting and launch venue.

LONDON HARVEST FESTIVAL 2026! 🌟

We had the best time at the annual City Farm and Gardens Harvest Festival at Mudchute Park and Farm with our amazing young farmers and volunteers! 🥰
-
We spent the day catching up with and meeting incredible people from other community projects. Everyone worked so hard, taking part in both the horticulture and animal handling classes—and we were lucky enough to bring home some rosettes 🏅

Ash, our gorgeous donkey who was born at our farm, in Hackney, won Champion Animal of the Show! 🐴🏆

Our incredible young farmer mentor, Grae, won Supreme Champion Handler! 🧑‍🌾🏆

Many of our other animals and volunteers won rosettes too! We are so proud of our team 🥳

BATH TIME FOR THE DONKEYS! 🧼

We gave Clover and Ash a little pampering session in preparation for the London Harvest Festival today at Mudchute Farm! 🙌

They were both very well behaved and are now extra cute and fluffy ready for show time! 🥰

This is Ash’s first ever show as he’s only 3 years old! Clover (26yrs) has done a few shows before and is a professional! Wish them both luck today🤞

Come and see them in their competition today (Saturday 19 September) Mudchute Park and Farm 💚
We’ve also brought some of our geese, ducks, chickens, goats and sheep to show too 🥳

MEET OUR NEW GEESE!! 🪿

Meet Dolly (female) and Parton (male), they are our newest additions to the farm! They were introduced to Beanie (in photos 2/3) and they fit right in 🥰

Then we introduced them to our old gaggle of geese - Robin (gander) and the girls Josephine & Georgie (last photo!) 🪿

Dolly and Parton are Buff Back geese, Beanie and Robin are Pilgrim geese, Josephine and Georgie are West of England geese 🩵

WINNIE HAS PIGLETS!! 🥹

Winnie gave birth to 11 adorable little piglets, they are doing so well and Winnie is a natural mum (it’s her first ever litter of babies!) 🥰

The piglets are crossbred so are Ginger Saddleback x Piétrain, this means they each have unique colouring and markings 🐷

DID YOU KNOW?!
Piglets usually are up and walking within minutes of being born - they walk to the mums teats for warmth and their first feed of milk 🐖

Come and visit them! We’re open this BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY and as usual Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm 🫶

We are partnered with an Open women’s prison that has a working outdoor farm attached.
The incarcerated people are taught animal skills such as pig keeping and rearing at the end of their sentence.
All our pigs are on loan from this Farm. Pregnant sows stay with us and give birth before going back to wean their piglets at 8 weeks old.
The Prison Farm is passionate about high welfare standards which perfectly aligns with our values here.
We keep pigs at our farm as a learning resource so children, young adults and students gain essential animal husbandry experience to work in the industry.
It can be hard for children in London to access and learn about animals and so we hope to help educate. 💚

Note:
Since September 2025, the farmyard has been completely unfunded – we rely on the kindness and generosity of our visitors to keep it going. 💚
🌾 Entry will always remain free, but if you can, our recommended donation is: £2 per adult | £1 per child
You’ll find cash collection boxes around the farm, as well as easy card/tap donation points, or you can donate online through our website - link in bio. Every penny goes straight to the care and upkeep of the animals 🐖💛

Lola, 2014–2026 💜

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved 12-year-old Anglo-Nubian nanny goat, Lola. We had managed her arthritis successfully with injections for some time, but in the spring, we noticed they were becoming less effective, and trimming her feet comfortably without causing pain was no longer possible.
-
Lola was the heart and soul of the farm and an essential foundation of our Anglo-Nubian breeding project. For many staff and volunteers, she was their first experience of milking and kidding. She was a gentle, patient, and loving goat who put everyone at ease and enjoyed meeting our visitors. We feel fortunate to have three daughters and five granddaughters from Lola to carry on her legacy, helping us keep a part of her close to us

Lola will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, and her gentle spirit will continue to shine through the generations she leaves behind 💜

WINNIE IS NESTING! 🥹🐷

Our adorable soon-to-be mama pig, Winnie, has been very busy preparing for her piglets! 🐽
As her due date gets closer, Winnie has been rooting around, gathering bedding and creating the cosiest little nest for her and her babies 🥰

Nesting usually suggests that a pregnant pig is less than 7-10 days away from farrowing (giving birth) 🥳

Winnie is a Ginger Saddleback x Piétrain and we are so excited to see what her babies will look like! 🥹

Clover 🤝 x0.5 📸 NEW HAIRCUTS! 💇‍♀️

Have you noticed Clover and Ash’s summer trims?! We clip their fur as the weather warms up to help them to manage the heat ☀️

We leave their legs and heads with their natural fluffy coat to protect them from the flies and they have a fly repellent spray too so they don’t get bitten 🧼
