Our therapy horses give many people a great ride, while our Shires are also active in conservation.

Operation Centaur is an organization set up to promote the relevance of the horse as a contemporary working animal in partnership with humans. This can take the form of heritage skills in conservation and agriculture, transportation, discovery, learning and therapy. At Operation Centaur, humans and horses alike work together sustainably, mainly in the privileged spaces of London’s Royal Parks and Historic Royal Palaces. While some of our work is commercial, a number of projects are charitable and free at the point of delivery.

The Shire horses at Hampton Court are part of the last herd of working Shire horses in London. They live in Home Park, where they also help maintain the wildflower meadows. Each November, on Shire Horse Sunday, the whole herd is blessed by HM’s Chaplain prior to evensong at The Chapel Royal. The Chapel service is open to all on a first-come first served basis. Gardens entrance is free.

So lovely having youngsters back - meet the next generation Matilda and James, happily settled at Hampton Court

Welcome to the amazing Matilda and her son James. Sadly we lost our broodmare Bess but thanks to the Bedford family stud we managed to acquire Bess’ mum Matilda - granny to George and Charles, so technically James at five months is their uncle! All being well they will make their debut at Shire Horse Sunday 22 November at Hampton Court Palace 📸
