From day one, Ants HQ has been about more than ants and equipment, itโ€™s been about curiosity, community and a fascination with the tiny worlds beneath our feet.

Whether youโ€™re starting your first colony or have been keeping ants since childhood, this hobby has a way of slowing us down and making us notice the small things.

Iโ€™m proud to share our new packaging and range of branded formicariums (ant farms). Months of design, testing and feedback have gone into these, theyโ€™re not just ant homes, but windows into nature, made to feel as good to receive as they are to use.

Our goal is to make ant keeping easier, cleaner and more accessible while reflecting who we are as keepers and our community. Ants deserve more than plastic tubs (although you canโ€™t beat a tubes and tubs setup in a pinch), they deserve homes worthy of the wonder they bring into ours.

Weโ€™re still only at the beginning of our journey in becoming the hub for everything ants. Thanks for being part of it and for supporting us, we couldnโ€™t do it without you.

A truly rare, large species of Aphaenogaster hailing from Madagascar ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฌ. Queens and workers are mainly a dark, glossy red colour with their gasters being fully black ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธโฃ

Colonies in the wild are often found fairly deep underground (1-2m) however their population size rarely exceeds 1500-2000 individuals. Despite this, workers are extremely well adapted to their environment and are considered to be opportunistic ๐Ÿ˜ foragers, taking in different food items from insects to seeds as well as extra florar nectars. โฃ

Interestingly, they maintain a type of mutualistic relationship with a variety of snakes, thatโ€™s right.. ๐Ÿ! Their deep nests offer perfect shelter for the snakes from predators and the natural elements, in turn, the snakes ward off potential predators that could threaten the ants. Locals will often refer to the snakes as the โ€œ๐€๐ง๐ญโ€™๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซโ€.
