Blog post (apologies the link is wrong in the email that was sent out - correct one below) time looking at some feline enrichment we are trying for Tristan and Izzy. Some really simple ideas based on observing how they are adapting to being a two cat household. Seeing their individual personalities come out more and more.

Chloe: This lovely boy is Ralph. I see him and his sister every 2 months for a regular claw trim and trim around the bum. On this occasion he did have some knots on his back legs, some of them I was able to comb out but others needed to be shaved off. Usually I do the claws at the end of the appointment but with Ralph I find it best to trim them before his sanitary trim because he's always grumpy after it's been done and he loses his patience. After his nails are done I trimmed around his fluffy bum and then he was done and sat outside the bathroom chilling while it was his sister's turn.

We at The Kat Lady always put the welfare and wellbeing of cats first. In the higher temperatures we sometimes cancel appointments if it gets around 30oC so please bear with us. For the next couple of days it is likely we may just keep morning visits where it’s cooler.

Grooming puts extra stress on cats so if it gets too hot it just isn’t in their best interests to add extra pressure for them and get their internal systems working in over drive. We don’t work in a salon with air conditioning so controlling the temperature isn’t something we can do!

I’ve written a few articles about helping your cats stay cool in the summer the last couple of years and this one was published nationally in The Daily Mail Online :

Just a couple more pictures from my mini break this week. I’ve left my cozy cabin and my cats are acting like I was away for 3 months rather than 3 nights! 💜 It’s always lovely coming home to their purrs.

I had a lovely day trip to Oswestry on the way home and spent all my money at an independent bookshop and art shop over the road. Got some cute cat themed stickers and a notebook though 🐈‍⬛

Back catching up on admin on Monday and with clients as usual on Tuesday. Chloe has done a great job holding the fort while I’ve been off.

I’m off this week having some much needed R&R. As usual I’ve gone to a random remote cabin surrounded by nature and very little else. My own little slice of heaven 💜👌🏻 I’ve befriended a horse, pony, bee and cat so far and been soaking up the bird song. The lady who runs the cabin does various therapies so I’ve had some reflexology, stretching and massages plus I’ve scheduled some yoga.

Before I head home for my last couple of days resting I plan on visiting a local independent bookshop and seeing if I can treat myself to a new book.

I miss home but I’m so glad I get to do something like this every 3 months and have a proper break from life. Do you have any little rituals like this?

This weeks blog is looking at how the relationships have changed in my multi cat house hold since we became a 2 cat family. In less than 18 months we lost both Eris and Loki and it has had a big impact on remaining cats Tristan and Izzy.

Cats have their own social structures and now it’s been 3 weeks since Loki passed the dynamics are starting to show up more clearly. Perhaps you have more than 1 cat and are concerned about how things may balance if 1 goes missing or passes.

Chloe: I saw Nyla recently for her regular groom. I gave her fur a good comb through to check for knots and to remove any fur that she was shedding and I trimmed her mane down as it's a bit too long for her when she is trying to groom herself. I gave her a trim around the bum as she is very fluffy and it will help to prevent any mess after using the litter tray, I trimmed her claws and checked her ears. She such a good girl

New cat grooming student Claire got to meet Reggie this week. He needed a really good brush as his fur is thick and dense. He’s getting older now and can’t groom himself as well as he once used to. She trimmed his claws and cleaned his ears while I gave his tummy and bottom a trim.

Claire has been coming on visits with me for few weeks now and is going to be a great welfare focused mobile cat groomer based in Lancaster. I can’t wait to share her business details once she’s finished her course and is set up.

Chloe: Today I saw a gorgeous Poppy. I see her every 2 months for a hygiene trim. As she is such a fluffy girl keeping her back end trimmed helps to prevent anything getting stuck when using the litter tray. She also had a couple small knots that she let me comb out for her.

This was a difficult blog post to write but one that means a lot to me. It’s been a couple of weeks since we said goodbye to Loki and his ashes are home where he belongs. It felt the right time to reflect on how both me and my two cats Izzy and Tristan have been dealing with his passing.

It’s been interesting observing how Izzy and Tristan have changed over the last few weeks. I haven’t really had a chance to process everything as it all seemed to happen so quickly. I’m away next week by myself and am intending to use some of that time to try and work through my own grief.
