It’s time for me to retire, so after 31 years grooming lovely pooches in Rothwell I’ve now closed my salon.

It’s been a hard decision to make but I’m starting to suffer from carpel tunnel syndrome from years of sc******ng and brushing. The feeling in my hands has become painful on a daily basis.
It is also 8 years this august since I had my kidney transplant and I have become very tired.
I plan to slow down and spend more time with friends and family, pottering in my garden and walking my dog.

I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has brought their dog/dogs to me for grooming, I have loved every minute and absolutely loved all the dogs, both funny and challenging!

Thank you for all the flowers…..(so many flowers, it’s been wonderful!!) gifts and cards…the messages inside have been so touching and I appreciate everything written.

A great big Thank you to my mum for starting Ragamuffins nearly 40 years ago and inspiring me to become the worlds best dog groomer.
Also to my partner Stuart for being there for me ♥️

Thank you and good bye
love Melanie xx

Hello all, wet weather alert.

Now that the bad weather is here and the heating is on it is more important than ever to look after our dogs coats.

We have had quite a few dogs that have had to be shaved very short recently. This is simply because the hair was matted.

We are professional groomers and really want to make you happy. Our first priority however, has to be the dogs health and well being.

We have a duty of care when a dog is brought in to us. This includes making sure that their time with us is pain free and will result in what is best for them.

Although we try and achieve the desired finished look, it is not always possible if the home maintenance hasn't been kept up to date.

If a coat is matted to excess then we as groomers have no option but to shave. We have to use equipment short enough to get under the matted area so as not to cause harm or stress to the dog.

Our groomers are fully trained and will explain to you if a coat is matted and will advise if a shave is the only option.

I'm sure that most owners would prefer to have a short dog for a few months than to think of their dogs in any kind of discomfort due to trying to de-Matt.

Please remember, we are dog lovers and want them to look the best that they can for you, but when it comes to welfare, the dogs health and well being comes first.

So remember, a brush a day keeps the clippers away.

If you would like a long coat and don't have time to brush, why not book in for a bath and brush out between regular grooming.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and we hope to see you and your little bundles of fluff soon. :-)
