Did you know? Cats live in a constant state of mild dehydration.
Cats naturally have a very low thirst drive β itβs a biological trait inherited from their desert-dwelling ancestors. Theyβre designed to get the majority of their moisture from their food, not from drinking.
This is why many cats are fussy water drinkers and often prefer fresh, running water over still water in a bowl.
Because of this, I never recommend a kibble-only diet for any cat, and especially not for older ones. Dry diets contribute to long-term dehydration, which places extra strain on the kidneys.
Why kidney support matters
Once your cat reaches around 7 years old, their risk of kidney disease increases significantly. Early support makes a huge difference in long-term kidney health.
Supplements like Nutraren help by:
β Supporting healthy renal function
β Helping neutralise toxins
β Providing antioxidants to protect kidney tissue
β Supporting hydration and overall wellbeing
Kidney disease is one of the most common issues we see in older cats β so prevention really is better than cure.
