Did you know? Cats live in a constant state of mild dehydration.

Cats naturally have a very low thirst drive β€” it’s a biological trait inherited from their desert-dwelling ancestors. They’re designed to get the majority of their moisture from their food, not from drinking.

This is why many cats are fussy water drinkers and often prefer fresh, running water over still water in a bowl.

Because of this, I never recommend a kibble-only diet for any cat, and especially not for older ones. Dry diets contribute to long-term dehydration, which places extra strain on the kidneys.

Why kidney support matters

Once your cat reaches around 7 years old, their risk of kidney disease increases significantly. Early support makes a huge difference in long-term kidney health.

Supplements like Nutraren help by:
βœ” Supporting healthy renal function
βœ” Helping neutralise toxins
βœ” Providing antioxidants to protect kidney tissue
βœ” Supporting hydration and overall wellbeing

Kidney disease is one of the most common issues we see in older cats β€” so prevention really is better than cure.

This beautiful boy is called Max the Basset hound!

He is an older boy and suffers with a heart condition so going to the vets can stress him out a fair bit. So I went out to trim his nails back and he was an absolute superstar! I'm looking forward to seeing him again ❀️

Doing a Nutravet order and natures menu so please pop up asap if you need anything.

Please note if you have got supplements through me via a consultation we had you will benefit from getting them cost price what I pay. I don't make money off these. I recommend them because they genuinely work and if I've said your pet will benefit I'm doing it because I care about your pets wellbeing and not because I'm profiting ❀️❀️

This is Handsome Wallace who I have met previously. He is the most lovely boy you will meet. His owners messaged me last week as he had another big hot spot. Wallace has suffered with these before. They asked if he should go to the vet again or could I have a look.

I knew from experience if he was to go in to the vet he would of been prescribed a steroidal cream which yes would clear it up but he would get another one a couple months time. I asked his owner to give me a couple days following my instructions to treat him as a whole as his skin was the symptom of a problem elsewhere.

I clipped the area and gave it a good clean. It was really big. I believe Wallaces skin problems stems from the gut. We started him on Kefir which is an excellent probiotic for his gut. I left them a natural spray to spray on the area three times a day. We started on excellent probiotic capsules and supplements heavy in Essential fatty acids which aid skin health. Within two days the hot spot had cleared and improved massively without a steroid in sight.

We are now looking to find a diet that will not flare his skin. We want to avoid dry kibble as it tends to be very carbohydrate dense as as the body breaks that down it can cause issues. We also want to avoid chicken or beef as our protein source for now as these tend to be high trigger proteins.

We will update you on how Wallace gets on over the next couple months. Hopefully this is the end of his itchy skin ❀️
