Meet Hamish Angus & Vincent Meow-Gogh! 🐱

These two little gentlemen came in to see Vet Emma Jane for their very first vaccinations and health check! They each had a full nose-to-tail examination, got weighed, and went home protected with flea and wormer treatment 💛

While they were here, their mum also signed them up for 4 weeks of free Petplan insurance – giving them extra peace of mind as they start their big adventures🐱

💡 Did you know?
If your pet is between 6 weeks and 18 months old, they could be eligible for 4 weeks free insurance too! To sign up they just need a same-day health check with one of our Vets or Nurses!

🐶 Meet Stella!

Stella first came in to see us after her owner noticed she was scratching her left ear a lot and was yelping whenever they touched the base of it.

🩺 On her first exam, Stella was so uncomfortable that it was difficult to check her ear thoroughly. A swab of the ear was taken and she was started on a course of steroids to help with the pain and inflammation. We then booked her back in for a recheck the following week with the same Vet!

At that appointment, Stella’s pain still hadn’t resolved, and she had now started shaking her head. The Vet discussed some different possible diagnoses with the owner, but they were most suspicious of a possible foreign body in her ear.

🏥 Two days later, Stella was admitted to our Dunfermline practice for a sedation so her ears could be examined properly. While she was sedated, the Vet found several thin, sharp sticks — each around 4–5cm long! These were removed, and her ear was flushed and cleaned.

Stella has since been back for her post-op recheck, and we’re delighted to say that her ears are much more comfortable 🎉

'A cautionary tale about puppies with non-descended testicles (cryptorchidism), featuring graphic images which may offend.❗️❗️

Meet Barney, a lovely elderly Daschund. Barney was in seeing one of our vets and on examination of his abdomen we found that he had a mass. After a few tests, it was still difficult to determine the origin of the mass so together with his owner, we made the decision to go to surgery. We found the mass and removed it, which turned out to be a testicular tumour! Barney was actually a cryptorchid dog which means both his testicles were retained in his abdomen, instead of descending into the sc***um when he was younger. This condition occurs in a small proportion of dogs (sometimes only one is retained), but it is important to have them castrated as unfortunately retained testicles often become cancerous. We are pleased to report that Barney has made a full recovery after his surgery and has been back to enjoying the sun! 🐶

Do you know this face? Your assistance is requested in returning a lost female entire cat found in Kirkcaldy and another in Burntisland. She’s hungrily feeding at the practice and otherwise appears in good health, but unfortunately without a microchip. Currently the local feline rehoming charities are full to bursting so we’re sure they’d appreciate if anyone is looking to help rehome any other cats. As per our protocols we’ll hold onto this lovely lady unless someone can present with some proof. If you’d like to help out please contact the Fife Cat Shelter/SSPCA/Whinnybank.

At the same time we’ve also had a Tortie presented without a microchip to Burntisland. If you know of a a missing Tortie please get back to either practice.

The Adventures of Zoey! 🐾🌍

Meet Zoey — the nearly 11-year-old explorer who’s been busy adventuring all over Europe! 🐶

Zoey was born in Adelaide, Australia and began her globetrotting journey in 2018 when she moved to Scotland with her mum. Along the way, she made stops in Melbourne and Dubai before finally landing in Glasgow!

Since then, Zoey has been one well-traveled pup, visiting the UAE, England, Wales, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Austria, and Luxembourg! ✈️

But if you ask her mum, Switzerland might just be Zoey’s favourite — she absolutely loves hiking and swimming in any body of water she can find ⛰️🌊

We couldn’t resist sharing some of the amazing photos from her recent adventure to the Alps 📸

Well done, Zoey — you’re amazing💖🐾

Meet Kylie 🐶

Kylie is a 9 and a half year-old Chihuahua who has been with her loving family since she was just 16 weeks old!

Her owners brought her in after noticing she looked a little bloated, was breathing noisily, and had bloody discharge from her v***a- different from her usual seasonal discharge!

Kylie was admitted for an abdominal scan, where we discovered she had a pyometra—a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that can occur in un-neutured female dogs. This condition causes the uterus to fill with pus and requires emergency surgery to treat 🏥🩺

After a night under the care of our night nurse, to re hydrate and stabilise her, she went into surgery the following day. For little Kylie who only weighs 3.4kg, her infected uterus weighed an astonishing 400 grams! 😲

Despite her tiny size, Kylie was one of the bravest patients we’ve ever met. She bounced back from her surgery incredibly well and was immediately back to her happy, lively self 💖

Kylie’s owners were keen for us to share her story to help raise awareness about pyometras, as it’s something many pet owners aren’t aware of. Her experience is a powerful reminder of why we recommend spaying female dogs. Pyometras are a very real and serious risk—but they are preventable with neutering!
